YOKER ATHLETIC’s dismal run of form continued on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat away to Girvan.

Despite taking an early lead the Whe-Ho again gifted goals to their opponents with basic defensive errors.

It started brightly for the visitors when Arbuckle was up-ended on the edge of the box after just four minutes.

Kenny Marshall stepped-up to curl the ball high into the top corner giving Johnstone no chance.

This should have given them a lift but in truth the hosts were the better side in the game’s early exchanges with Liam Campbell having to be alert more than once in goal.

The hosts did level just after the hour mark when Cunningham found a huge space between Yoker defenders and he fired past Campbell.

Shaun Kelly could and should have put the visitors back in front just before half-time but his close range header from Andy Rankin’s delivery went over the bar.

The second-half began as a really tousy affair with neither side really getting a foothold in the game early on but the home side began to make use of the elements as a strong coastal wind picked up blowing straight down the throat of the backline.

After a ricochet in midfield the ball spun high in the air, carried by the wind in behind the Yoker backline, and Patterson outpaced James Ross to slot past Campbell.

Girvan then had a chance to extend their lead as Reilly went past McGillion all too easily before trying to pick out Patterson; it seemed that Michael Bailey scooped the ball away but the referee pointed to the spot.

Campbell dived low to his left to prevent Patterson extending the hosts’ lead.

Substitute Ryan Hynes then saw an attempted equaliser go close and Greg Maitland was also unlucky as the visitors sought an equaliser.

In the end Yoker were caught on the break chasing an equaliser when Girvan broke on the break to gain another penalty, McCreadie sending Campbell the wrong way to seal the points with three minutes to go.

After a bright start to the league campaign it’s three straight league defeats for the Whe-Ho and they now find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

This Saturday they host Renfrew at Holm Park as they try to turn their fortunes, kick-off is at 2pm.
