CLYDEBANK moved top of the Super League First Division with a 2-0 win away to Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday.

An own goal from Shotts defender Paul McMullen and Nicky Little’s penalty kick gave Bankies their fourth consecutive league win and third clean sheet of the season.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie named an unchanged 11 for the third game in a row in the match that saw Clydebank win at Hannah Park — a previously unhappy hunting ground for the Bankies.

Shotts stopper Allan Creer was the busier goalkeeper in the opening exchanges, with Jordan Shelvey, Johnny Allan and Alan Vezza all trying their luck with no avail.

On 13 minutes however, Bankies broke the deadlock. Hashim Cole’s hooked clearance found Nicky Little, who set Joel Kasubandi free down the left channel. Kasubandi drove to the byline be-fore cutting the ball across the six yard box, where Shotts defender Paul McMullen bundled it into his own net to give Clydebank the lead.

Despite the promising start, Shotts could have and would have been level had it not been for Clydebank goalkeeper Josh Lumsden. A simple ball over the top evaded the Bankies back line, with Lumsden on hand to deny Callum Hendrie who was through one on one.

Great work down the left from Shelvey saw him get goal-side of Shotts full back Garry Campbell, with Campbell bundling the forward over in the box. Referee Ronnie Strain pointed to the spot, and Nicky Little comfortably placed the ball beyond the reach of Creer to double Clydebank’s advantage.

Just before the break, Shotts rattled the crossbar. A corner from the left was whipped in and Martin Macguire’s thumping header cannoned off the woodwork, before bouncing to safety in what was a huge let off for the Clydebank defence.

On the hour mark, Lumsden was forced into a spectacular fingertip save. Max McKee got his free kick up and over the four man wall, but at full stretch, Lumsden tipped the ball wide.

Bankies had the chance to add to their tally, when Nicky Little flicked the ball to Kasubandi who, after beating the offside trap, tried to lob Creer before dragging the rebound wide of the target.

Having received a bye in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup, Clydebank’s next game is the Holm Park Derby as we host Yoker Athletic on Saturday, October 3. Kick off is 2pm.
