CLYDEBANK boss Budgie McGhie was delighted with his side’s display in their first competitive tie of the season — Bankies ran out 3-0 winners over Ashfield in the Sectional League Cup.

Two goals from new signing Ryan Holms and one from Johnny Allan gave Bankies a convincing win at Holm Park. While McGhie is happy with the way his new look side is coming together, he is still to get a full strength team on the pitch as some key players remain sidelined through injury.

He said: “I thought it was a pleasing performance and without getting carried away, we controlled most of the game. We have to give Ashfield credit due to significant changes they’ve undergone, I thought they were very disciplined and very well organised which made it hard for us to break them down at times.

“We played some really nice football at times and it was nice to get a clean sheet in the process.

“We haven’t played our strongest team, so I think once we do that we will have a better idea of where we are. It was disappointing we couldn’t get Nicky Little involved today, but we are still awaiting international clearance from Australia for him.

“When we consider that guys like Derek Carcary and Graham Mort weren’t involved today, the depth of the squad is looking fairly strong at the moment.” Meanwhile one player that looks set to be on his way out of the club is Scott Walker. He has been placed on the transfer list with McGhie revealing that it was a mutual decision that he should look for another club.

He said: “Scott has been here for a few years and he’s been a good player for us. I think it was clear from the first month of pre-season training that he wasn’t enjoying it.

“So we had a wee chat about it and he more or less said that he wasn’t enjoying it as much as he should. He is under contract so we out him on the list and we’ll see what happens, we have already had a couple of enquiries but nothing concrete.”
