Break did us no favours
CLYDEBANK stopper Stefan Gonet believes their two-week break before the Ashfield clash may have scuppered their chances of lifting the Super League First Division trophy.
Clydebank's defeat against the Field has left the Holm Park side disappointed, despite clinching promotion to the Super League Premier Division.
Victory would have ensured Budgie McGhie's side go up as champions.
But their 2-0 loss has given the Glasgow side the chance to wrap up the league championship against Girvan on Saturday.
The keeper believes the two-week break leading up to the game could have worked against the side.
Gonet, however, has enjoyed the season and insists, despite the result, the team are relishing the prospect of facing the likes of Arthurlie, Irvine Meadow and Pollok on a regular basis.
He said: "The Ashfield game was disappointing, but we had an aim of clinching promotion at the start of the season, and we got it.
"We would have loved to be crowned champions, but it is not in our hands now, we are just delighted we are going up.
"We had a two-week break before the game and Ashfield were coming into the game with momentum and that may have worked against us.
"But we didn't play well enough.
"Looking at the bigger picture, we may not be champions.
"But We are now playing against big teams that normally you hope to get drawn against in a cup, so we are looking forward to next season."
