Clydebank 0 Troon 1
BANKIES slumped to their second successive home defeat to relegated opposition.
The match was switched to Holm Park because of a fixture clash at Glenhead Park. Budgie McGhie"s side have never won at the home of rivals Yoker and wanted to end that dismal record.
And the signs were good early on when a neat move ended with Paul Craig feeding namesake Allum for a golden chance. The midfielder rounded keeper Darren Johnston but, off balance, failed to get the ball past a covering defender on the line.
But, after a bright start, the home side lost their edge, not surprising considering this was their 17th match in a gruelling two-month spell and the 11th in May alone.
Troon were aiming for the double over the Bankies after a smash-and-grab last minute win by the seaside in November.
The goal that was to decide this match came much earlier, before the half hour, from the game"s outstanding player.
Clydebank"s defence failed to clear the danger and paid a hefty price when Brian Mitchell neatly laid the ball into the path of Ricky Hanvey who side-footed his shot wide of Barry John Corr for what proved to be the winner.
Conditions, while glorious for the fans, tested the players, with the referee showing the foresight to allow players a quick water break.
Bankies started the second half well and Craig almost forced a equaliser when he burst through the Troon defence only to be thwarted by the legs of Johnston.
Gaffer McGhie then introduced trialist Kirk Forbes who injected life with a mazy run then a headed chance at the back post but the Troon rearguard stood firm.
