CLYDEBANK were dumped out of the Scottish Junior Cup with a 3-0 defeat to Linlithgow Rose last Saturday, writes David Brockett.

Tommy Coyne scored a hat-trick and Jamie Darroch saw red as Bankies were dumped out in the second round.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie made three changes to the side that went down 4-0 to Cumnock a fortnight ago, with Robert Tiropoulos, Hashim Cole and Cammy Haddow making way for Josh Lumsden, Andy Paterson and Phil Barclay — who made his first appearance of the season.

After 11 minutes, Rose opened the scoring. Good play down the right between Ross Gray and Blair Batchelor saw the latter cross for Coyne — son of former Clydebank striker Tommy Snr — whose shot trundled past Lumsden.

Gray and Batchelor combined again, this time the former crossing for Kevin Keirie, with Jamie Darroch blocking his shot well.

Four minutes before the break, Rose doubled their lead. A quick counter attack saw Gray’s right-wing cross, pick out an unmarked Coyne, whose half-volley put the East Region side two goals to the good.

Ten minutes after the restart, manager McGhie rang the changes, with Calum Gow and Phil Barclay being replaced by Jamie Lyden and Mark Burbidge.

Bankies should’ve found their way back into the game shortly after, with only a fantastic save from Rose stopper Darren Hill preventing Jamie Darroch’s header while Joel Kasubandi blazed the rebound over.

Another superb set-piece delivery from Nicky Little found substitute Burbidge, who cracked the outside of the post with his effort from the edge of the box.

Fifteen minutes from the end, Rose sealed the win and Bankies were reduced to 10 men. Jack Beaumont’s corner found Jamie McKenzie, with the defender rifling a shot towards goal.

Referee David Dickinson judged Darroch to have handled the ball on the line, pointing to the spot and showing a straight red card to the centre back.

Coyne stepped up to the spot, sending Lumsden the wrong way as he grabbed his hat-trick and Rose’s place in the third-round draw.
