Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie is frustrated with the lack of goals from his team, after their 0-0 draw with Blantyre Victoria on Saturday.

The Bankies edged play against John Gibson’s side at Holm Park, but the away side almost snatched all three points but for a Josh Lumsden save at the death.

And McGhie is hoping his side are able to find their goal scoring form again, after going for a second week without finding the net.

He said: “I thought we started off really well in the first half, we just couldn’t get the goal that would have made the difference.

“Blantyre began to grow into the game by the end of the first half. In the second half for the most part we looked like the most likely team to score and we could have lost it right at the end.

“Again against Shettleston I don’t think the performances have been that bad, but the game is all about goals and winning, and we’re obviously struggling to get the goals.

“It’s just a spell we’re going through, you’ve got guys like Nicky in the team who scored 20 odd goals last season, and even he’s not scoring as regularly as he could be.

“The main thing is the boys are working hard and we’re working on things in training and hopefully it will turn.

Girvan are up next up for the Bankies and Peter Leonard’s side have got off to a fine start since their promotion from the Ayrshire District League, and are unbeaten so far in the league.

But McGhie is hoping that a trip down to Hamilton Park will bring back his side’s goalscoring touch.

“We’ve just got to work hard at training and hopefully a trip down to the south Ayrshire wind will bring out a bit of finishing.

“We’ve got some big games coming up starting with Girvan.”

Mark Burbidge was missing again for the game against Blantyre, and McGhie is hoping he recovers in time to travel to play Girvan.

He said: “He’s injury was a dead leg against Shettleston, and he came down with a virus last week, and he wouldn’t have been fit for either game.

“Hopefully he’ll come into contention for this week, it’s not a definite yet and it’s quite a bad virus he’s had so we just need to monitor that as the week goes on.

And McGhie’s side discovered their cup opposition this week – a trip to Cumnock in the West of Scotland Cup, and a trip to face Linlithgow Rose. He added: “It’s one of the toughest ones we could have got again.

“Over the last few years we’ve not been lucky with the cup draws, and that’s continued this year.

“To pull a draw out like that this early is not ideal but obviously it’s a challenge for the boys, and we weren’t that far away against Kelty Hearts last season, and Linlithgow are up there in that sort of standard.

“It’s a tough one but we’ve got to there and just try and create a shock there.”

And McGhie also confirmed that midfielder Gregor Cree had left the club to look for more first team opportunities.
