Clydebank made it two wins from two with a 3-0 win over Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday afternoon at Holm Park, writes David Brockett.

Mark Burbidge’s brace and a strike from Peter McGill saw Bankies secure top spot with their second successive win.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie made two changes to the side that beat Irvine Meadow, with Nicky Little and Jordan Shelvey making way for Jamie Darroch and Mark Burbidge respectively.

The home side started much brighter and could have gone ahead inside four minutes. Operating as part of a midfield three, Cammy Haddow’s sweet volley from the edge of the area was tipped over by Johnny Murdoch.

The home side continued to press, with Jamie Lyden hitting the post with a diving header after another sweeping counter attack.

Shotts soon came back into the game, with Josh Lumsden called into action, diving low to his left to hold Burns effort.

On the half hour mark, the Bankies broke the deadlock.

A driving run from the influential Haddow saw him cross perfectly for Burbidge, who guided the ball into the back of the net.

And four minutes before the break, Bankies doubled their lead.

McGill found space wide on the right, and cut inside Shotts defender Ally Martin before curling a wonderful left-footed effort beyond the reach of Murdoch as Bankies went in two goals to the good.

After the restart, the Bankies almost grabbed a third.

Good movement from Alan Frizzell saw the former Largs attacker get a shot away, but his effort was deflected over the bar.

Midway through the second half McGhie made two changes – with Stevie Young and Jordan Shelvey replacing Joel Kasubandi and Peter McGill, with Shelvey involved instantly.

Picking the ball up 20 yards out, he first forced Murdoch into a flying save, before shooting narrowly wide.

Then Lyden, filling in at left back, almost made it two goals in two games after rising highest at the back post, but his header went narrowly over the bar.

With five minutes remaining, Burbidge grabbed his second and the Bankies third of the day.

Great hold up play from substitute Shelvey saw him lay the ball off to Burbidge who smashed home from inside the area to give him his third goal of the season.

Burns was then dismissed for a second yellow card as Clydebank secured their second successive win to go top of the league.

Clydebank host local rivals Yoker at Holm Park, on Saturday, kick-off is at 2pm.
