Striker Joel Kasubandi is “happy to be back” after agreeing to stay on with Clydebank FC this year.

The 23-year-old had a trial at Dumbarton last month and turned down several offers from Junior and League One sides to sign up with the Bankies.

And the forward says that the unfinished business of getting promoted from the Super League First Division was one of the reasons for his return.

He said: “I’m excited to be back – I’m over the moon.

“I had other offers from Kilbirnie and Queen’s Park but we want promotion. It’s one of the main reasons I came back as there is a lot to play for.

“All the Clydebank boys went on holiday this year and I promised the boys that if nothing happened with Dumbarton I’d probably be back at Clydebank.

“It was just down to the management to get a deal sorted. It’s come to its conclusion and I’m happy to be back.”

The former Vale of Clyde player said that with no guarantee of first-team football at Queen’s Park and little to play for at Kilbirnie, it made his decision easier to make. He added: “Kilbirnie offered me a really good deal.

“I actually had a training session with Kilbirnie to see what it was like as I wanted to keep my options open – and Queen’s Park as well.

“But after I went to see the set-up at Kilbirnie I knew that Clydebank was the right place for me to go back to because we’ve got a lot to play for this year promotion-wise and we kept a good squad from last year.

“Kilbirnie are safe in the Super League Premier Division and I don’t know what they’re going to play for this year but they’re basically safe in that league.

“Queen’s Park have signed over 30 boys so I wouldn’t be playing next year and I felt if I came back here and had a really good season that would give me another good push.

“I’m not the type of person who’s going to be happy sitting on the bench and as a young boy you’re not going to be noticed sitting on the bench so if I went there I’d be back to square one.

“I went to speak to Stephen Swift [Kilbirnie manager] and spoke to Budgie and financially, Kilbirnie probably made me the best offer but I’m not bothered about the money just now, I’d rather just focus on my football just now.”

And after joining up to Clydebank’s pre-season, the striker’s second of the summer after being with Dumbarton, he’s feeling fitter than ever and is raring to go.

He said: “I’m flying, it’s a no brainer the boys can see at training and everybody can see it that I’m literally flying, it’s the fittest I’ve ever been.

“That’s one thing I’ll thank them for is that they put me in good shape, the main thing for me now is to maintain my fitness.

“I had my first training session last week and I felt I hadn’t done enough. Although the boys were blowing I felt as if I could have done a bit more.

“I don’t want to get into a comfort zone where I’m ok with their sort of fitness levels, I’m going to try and do a bit extra myself, when we’re not training to keep a high fitness level.”
