CLYDEBANK skipper Phil Barclay has issued a rallying call to his Bankies teammates as they prepare for their final league game knowing a win could clinch promotion.

The Bankies produced one of their best performances of the season when the pressure was at a maximum on Saturday as they defeated promotion rivals Cumnock 3-0.

A loss would have seen them almost certainly resigned to another season in the Super League First Division, but the win keeps Bankies second in the table going into their final game at home to Rutherglen Glencairn tonight.

With rivals Cumnock and Kilwinning Rangers hot on their heels and both having a game in hand, Bankies know a win is essential to give them a chance at securing the second automatic play-off spot or third which would mean a play-off with Premier League side Shettleston.

Barclay insists it is the biggest game in his time at the club since joining in November, 2014, and he is convinced Clydebank are up to the challenge.

He said: “Rutherglen Glencairn are a capable team. They’ve had some good results this season so we need to make sure our standards are the same as they were on Saturday.

“Last season we had big games to try and stay in the Premier League which we didn’t manage to do.

“This is the other end of the spectrum. It’s a high and a win on Wednesday gives us a great chance.

“It is the biggest game since I arrived at the club last November and a massive performance is needed.”

The win at Cumnock came despite the Bankies having only 14 fit players and they lost full-back Andy Paterson early in the game to injury.

With their whole season on the line, Barclay believes the way Clydebank rose to the occasion demonstrates their progress since last season’s relegation from the top flight.

He said: “There was a lot of emotions on Saturday, playing against a promotion rival.

“We knew what we had to do but we were up against quite a few injuries.

“It was a massive game in terms of our promotion chances but the gaffer didn’t put any pressure on us.

“He just told us to go out and do what we have been doing.

“Sometimes in big games teams can get a bit of stage fright but that didn’t happen and that shows how far we have come as a team.”

The kick-off at Holm Park tonight is at 7.30pm. Under-12s go free.
