A RISING table tennis star is shipping out to France to further his career.
Sean Doherty, 17, is Scotland's number one ranked junior and is preparing to swap Scotstoun for Paris after being selected by the country's top team Levallois.
The Knightswood Table Tennis Club player, who is also the ranked seventh senior in Scotland, this week explained how his exciting French adventure arose.
He said: "It all came about through a player from the Knightswood team who organised for me to go over for a trial and I must have impressed because they asked me to come over and play for them next season.
"It will make a massive difference to move from part-time to full time - but I think it will be amazing."
After beginning his career at the age of 11 his skills were obvious from the outset and he emerged as a shining light in the sport almost instantly.
He added: "When I started table tennis I really got hooked on it very quickly and within eight months I had qualified to represent Scotland at primary school level. My ranking just kept going up and I was soon number one in Scotland.
"By that stage I realised that table tennis was something I could do more seriously and potentially make a career out of it."
