A MAJOR boxing show - which would have seen Clydebank's Gary McArthur challenge for the Scottish title - has been cancelled.
The organisers of the event at Scotstoun Sports Campus were forced into making the difficult decision as proposed strikes by Glasgow City Council staff could have potentially ruined the night's entertainment.
With just over a week until the fights were due to take place, on Friday May 28, promoter Chris Gilmour was devastated to have to pull the plug.
He told Sport Scene: "It's unfortunate that we have had to take this decision, and it could well be that everything has all been sorted out by the time next Friday comes around.
"But we can't afford to take that chance because we don't want people turning up at the door to find out that it's all shut up."
As we revealed last week the self-styled Clydebank Blitz McArthur was relishing getting into the ring for the biggest fight of his career.
But it now looks likely that the 27-year-old will have to wait until September at the earliest to take on Stuart Green, of Glenrothes, for the Scottish light welterweight belt.
A gutted McArthur said: "It's just so frustrating because I have put in all this work to get ready for the fight and now it has been put off."
Despite the last-minute decision to call off the five-fight show, it has also emerged this week that Whiteinch boxer Jamie McLevy might have had to pull out anyway due to an injury. And it is also thought that the undercard's other main draw, Coatbridge's Chris Black, was also struggling with an injury.
