The win at Scotstoun was Warriors biggest in Europe for eight years and secured a bonus point from the opening game of the group, setting them up well for next week’s trip to Montpellier.

It was a win that will send out a warning to Glasgow’s European rivals as they bid to reach the knock-out stage in Europe for the first time since 1998.

Warriors have also been performing well on league duty with last week’s defeat to Ulster their first of the season, but Townsend insists the demolition of Bath was his side’s best showing yet.

He said: “We are delighted with the performance from the team.

“The intent we played at and our defence after the 11th minute where we didn’t concede a try made it a superb performance.

“This season it was the most complete performance I’ve seen from the team. It was a really good 80 minute performance.” Despite the comprehensive win and impressive performance Townsend still feels there are areas his team can improve on.

He said: “Bath got an upper hand in the scrums and it’s an area of the game we’ll have to look at and improve for next week.” The coach singled out Henry Pyrgos as being his team’s stand out performer after he scored a terrific try and picked up the man of the match award.

He said: “Henry was awarded man of the match and I thought he had a fantastic game.

“We then fielded Niko (Matawalu) who brought that energy when the game maybe broke up a little.

“I thought the whole squad effort was excellent today.”
