CLYDEBANK’s season got off to a solid start with a draw at home to Waysiders/Drumpellier — but it could have been so much different had they managed to weather a second half comeback at Whitecrook.

This left WD and the home side to play out a 12-12 draw with the first half going in favour of the Red and Blacks and the visitors closing the drama on the opening day of the season.

After the away side opened the half by mauling it into home territory Bank soaked up the pressure and began to dominate possession and field position.

McLintock had an early break foiled near the line and opposite winger Miller also came close but was bundled into touch at the corner flag.

The deadlock was eventually broken after 15 minutes when Kyle cutely passed back inside to Robert Parr in the left hand corner.

The hosts extended their lead when the ball was swept right to McLintock who used his speed to break away and touch down. McCombe slotted the conversion well and Bank went into half time with a 12-0 lead.

Waysiders were not settling for the same in the second half and came back into the game using their big pack to stick it up the jumper and play tight and a combination of poor handling and decision making by the home side who were feeling confident after their fine first half showing.

Their forward power was effective and they got back into the game with a converted try.

Bank then blew possession and gave away silly penalties to allow WD into their own 22 and they took advantage and evened the scores up with an unconverted try with 10 minutes left.

No further scores were forthcoming and both sides earned two points each for their endeavors in a tight opening affair.

One of the main cast was unable to be found as a referee was unavailable for the second XV and the fixture was unable to be played.
