Annan 34 0 Clydebank Clydebank first XV made the long trip in good spirits and were confident of building on their superb win against Strathendrick however top of the table Annan had other ideas and snuffed them out to record a 34-0 victory that leaves the Bankies bottom of West Division 2.

On a quagmire of a pitch it was Annan who started the better team, dominating possesion and territory in the early exchanges. They took the lead when they fielded a long kick and passed to their pacey three-quarter who scythed through the defence to score a fine individual try from 30 metres. The conversion from out wide was unsuccesful.

Clydebank tried to make an impact on the massive pitch but the home defence was in their faces and tackling hard. The home side extended their lead further after 10 minutes when they sneaked down the blind side to score in the corner with the tricky conversion from out wide missed again.

Bank handed a first team debut to Dave Kirkwood on the wing however the wet conditions prevented the ball getting to him often through the backs hands and was unable to make the impact he had hoped for.

Annan were dominating the set pieces and won several lineouts against the throw and were controlling the scrums better in the wet and boggy conditions.

They extended their lead to 17 after another try, this time converted on the 20 minute mark. Banks best attacking opportunities were in open play when Kirkwood and full-back McLintock returned kicks and got the ball in open play but were unable to make any clean breaks.

The forwards got some structure to their attacks and ended the half well without getting on the scoreboard.

The seconnd-half was mostly played in Annan's half as the Red and Blacks tried to put pressure on the home side and get back into the match.

The home team were conceding a lot of penalties and stand off Miller was kicking to touch a lot gaining good field position. In a 10 minute spell Bank were camped in the home 22 as Annan struggled to clear their line but their defence was aggressive and forced Bank into mistakes.

Kirkwood made a nice break up the right hand side using his pace but was chopped down. Robert Parr was also using his pace to make breaks and was Clydebank's most dangerous runner, making several breaks and getting in behind the Annan defence.

Kirkwood was unlucky to concede a converted penalty try with 10 minutes to go when Annan hacked through a loose ball and as he and the Annan player were both jostling with each other close to the line the referee decided to award the try despite the Annan player tugging his jersey as well.

Clydebank gambled in the last minute to score from a tap penalty and as the wet ball was fumbled being passed out wide to utilise the pace of the backs, Annan's centre intercepted to run from his own 22 to complete the scoring for the day.

Annan fully deserved their victory but Clydebank's resolve and determination in the second half was encouraging.

With Jack Fraser also making his first team debut alongside Kirkwood it was disappointing the boys weren't able to get in the game make an impact and show their true potential on a very sticky pitch against the League champions elect.

The second XV league fixture against Irvine was called off when Irvine were unable to field a team due to injuries.

A friendly was arranged against Whitecraigs who play in the league above and it showed as Bank were beaten by 30 points. They did score two tries of their own through evergreen centre David Bell and young prop Jack Burgoyne who scored for the second game in a row and is another young player showing potential and is one for the future.

The first XV next fixture is against fellow league strugglers Cumbernauld in a must win game at Whitecrook next week and the second XV are also at home looking to make it five league wins in a row against Stewartry.
