Clydebank and District Bowling Association The annual CDBA Presentation of prizes was held at Albion Bowling Club on the evening of Friday, September 18 and all member clubs were in attendance. After a lovely steak pie meal, Albion President Robert Cook handed the club over to the District for the Presentation Ceremony, which was carried out by CDBA President Colin Ballantyne, Vice President Scott Buchanan and Secretary John Anderson. The Presentation got underway with the prizes for the various competitions held throughout the winter season. First up was the Dominoes League Champions Trophy which was presented to Dalmuir President Charlie McIntyre. In the Dominoes Champions of Champions, the runners-up were Sinclair Sutherland and Davie Hepburn (Albion) and the Winners were Colin Greenlees and Davie Baillie (Radnor Park).

Clydebank B.C. were next up to collect their short carpet prizes. Clydebank won both the Gents Short Carpet League and Seniors Short Carpet League and were presented with their trophies. It was no surprise when they were also presented with the McAllistar Trophy for dominating the winter activities. The results from the Senior Short Carpet Champion of Champions were announced as follows: Senior Triples Runners-up Alistair Scott, Gerry Kane and Gordon Phillips (Clydebank), Senior Triples Winners – John Orr, Gordon Laird and Jim McGinley (Clydebank), Senior Pairs Runners-up – Ronnie Helyar and Malcolm Drummond (Old Kilpatrick), Senior Pairs Winners – John Trodden and Hugh Nelson (Albion), Senior Singles Runner-up – Ronnie Ferguson (Old Kilpatrick), Senior Singles Championship Winner – John Anderson (Yoker). All the Senior Short Carpet Champion of Champions’ competitions were kindly sponsored by Honorary Member John Baxter (Radnor Park). The prizes for the Gents Short Carpet Champion of Champions competitions were then announced in the following order: Triples Runners-up – Alan McLeod, George Bruce and Gordon Phillips (Clydebank), Triples Winners – Gordon Rutherford, Tommy Wilson and Raymond Hay (Radnor Park), Pairs Runners-up – Iain Anderson and Les Durkan (Yoker), Pairs Winners – Stevie Calder and Mitch Hughes (Yoker), Singles Runner-up – George Smith (Yoker), Singles Championship Winner – George Griffin (Dalmuir).

The Ceremony then moved from the winter activities to the outdoor bowling competitions, starting with the two charity games held at the beginning of the season. This year the Kirkwood Emblem was won by Clydebank B.C. and the highest-up rink were Peter Bell, Billy Wylie, Fred Reid and Stuart Thomson (Singer). The Ackland Allan Bowl was won by Old Kilpatrick B.C. and the highest-up rink was skipped by Brian McCourt (Albion). The Adams Love competition is sponsored each year by Billy Adams of Clydebank B.C. After winning for the previous two years, Dalmuir had to settle for runner-up in 2015. The trophy was won by Gerry Kane, Gordon Laird, Stuart Liddell and Jim McGinley (Clydebank). Next up was the CDBA Gents League considered by many as the premier competition in the outdoor season calendar. The League Champions for season 2015 were Dalmuir B.C. and Dalmuir President Charlie McIntyre accepted the trophy on behalf of the Club. District Secretary John Anderson warned Charlie not to drop the huge trophy. What happened next? (answers on a postcard please, but not to me!). The CDBA Senior League which is only recently finished, was won by Clydebank B.C. who were presented with the David Syme Trophy. Next up was the League Cup which was won this year by Radnor Park, beating Dalmuir in the final.

The Senior Top Ten competition was sponsored this year by Co-op Funeralcare: Runners-up - Clydebank, Winners - Dalmuir. The Gents Top Ten was sponsored by John Baxter: Runners-up – Singer, Winners – Radnor Park. The A.J. Campbell Singles was sponsored by John Anderson: Runner-up – Andy Roberts (Old Kilpatrick), Winner – youngster Drew Scott (Radnor Park). The prizes for the other inter-club competitions were presented as follows: Senior Top Nine: Runner-up – Dalmuir, Winners – Yoker, Senior Top Three (sponsored by Honorary President George McCartney): Runners-up – Yoker (Jim Shades, Jim Donald and John Anderson), Winners – Clydebank (Gerry Kane, George Bruce and Tom Murray), Top Five: Runners-up – Clydebank (Joe Kerrigan, Joe Currie, George Bruce, David Keel, Joe Campbell), Winners – Radnor Park (Drew Hearton, Alan McDade, Scott Buchanan, Raymond Hay, Davie Patterson).

The final part of the Presentation Ceremony was centred around the end of season CDBA Champion of Champions competitions and the following prize winners were announced: Senior Fours: Runners-up – Tommy Pollock, John Carruth, Gordon McGregor and George Griffin (Dalmuir), Winners – Earl McLaughlan, Eric Milne, Tommy Summers and Stuart Thomson (Singer), Gents Fours: Runners-up - Jim Nicholson, Mark Hughes, David Nicholson and Derek Thomson (Old Kilpatrick), Winners – Robert Farquharson, Willie Drysdale, Eddie Askew and Alistair McKay (Yarrow), Gents Triples: Runners-up – Billy Adams, Jim Russell and Grant Russell (Clydebank), Winners – Phil Sherry, Ian MacDonald and Grant Sayer (Dalmuir), Gents Pairs: Runners-up – George Smith and Billy Boyd (Yoker), Winners – Andy Dunbar and Jim Dunbar (Old Kilpatrick), Junior Singles (sponsored by Past President Alex Campbell): Runner-up – Lewis Campbell (Radnor Park), Winner – Ryan Hughes (Old Kilpatrick), Gents Singles: Runner-up – Raymond Hay (Radnor Park), Winner – Andy Roberts (Old Kilpatrick). Unfortunately Andy was on holiday and Old Kilpatrick President Robert Kelso accepted the Trophy and said some words of thanks to the District Officials. The evening was rounded off with a Cabaret by “comedian” Robbie Carren.

District Club News Yoker Bowling Club recently hosted their annual fundraiser for Cancer Research UK in memory of Catherine Ferrier, a good friend of the Club. At least 50 people, including Catherine’s family and friends, joined the Yoker members for a Fun Bowls Challenge Match and around £700 was raised on the day for the cancer charity. Singer held the annual September Cup on Saturday, September 19, which is a Mixed Pairs competition sponsored by Carol and Sammy McGeachie. This year’s competition was won by Joyce Burns and John Barbour who beat Christine Waters and Jim McIver in the final.

The other semi-finalists were Anne & Allan Milne and Norah Bell and Thomas Welsh. Birth Certificates were hidden away prior to the annual Over 60’s v Under 60’s at Radnor Park B.C. on Saurday. The “Unders” won comfortably but there appeared to be more than fifty shades of grey on show. Victoria Park held their annual Invitation Fours on Saturday, September 19. This year’s competition was won by Willie Riach, Vic Smyth, Mick McDermott and Billy Adams (Clydebank) who beat Willie Docherty, Murdie McLeod, Colin Duncan and Bobby Totten (Singer) in the final.

Dalmuir also held their annual Invitation Fours on Saturday, September 19 which was sponsored by Co-op Funeralcare. The 2015 competition was won by Hyndland (skip Steven Borthwick) who defeated Brock (skip Paul Kane) in a close final. The other semi-finalists were University (skip Alex Corrigan) and Albion (skip Tam Mackie). Albion B.C. hosted the annual David Ford Singles Trophy on Saturday.

This season’s competition was won by President Robert Cook who beat Ian Campbell in the final. All proceeds from this day went to St Margaret’s Hospice. Old Kilpatrick held their Tournament Day on Saturday with the only known winner being President Robert Kelso who won this year’s “Lavvy Seat”.

There are only a few games on this weekend due to the Glasgow September Holiday Weekend. Clydebank B.C. are having their Fish Supper Day on Saturday, September 26 and Old Kilpatrick B.C. will be the first local green to close on the same day.
