Clydebank and District Bowling Association Congratulations to Dalmuir Bowling Club on winning the CDBA League for the second time in five seasons. Dalmuir managed to complete the league programme unbeaten after their ninth win out of nine league matches. The week nine matches in the CDBA League were played on Friday, July 3. Dalmuir triumphed over Yarrow on Friday evening and there were excellent wins for Old Kilpatrick (who finished runners-up), Singer (third place) and Radnor Park. The full results from the final league matches were as follows: Dalmuir 9 Yarrow 5, Old Kilpatrick 12 Scotstounhill 2, Singer 12 Victoria Park 2, Radnor Park 12 Albion 2 and Clydebank 8 Yoker 6. The CDBA League trophy was presented to Dalmuir President Charlie McIntyre by District Secretary John Anderson. The final league positions and point totals were as follows: 1. Dalmuir 93 points, 2. Old Kilpatrick 85 points, 3. Singer 78 points, 4. Clydebank 75 points, 5. Yarrow 68 points, 6. Radnor Park 66 points, 7. Yoker 55 points, 8. Albion 54 points, 9. Scotstounhill 36 points, 10. Victoria Park 20 points.

As reported last week, the CDBA Top Five Singles competition kicked off on Sunday, June 28. Dalmuir were awarded a walkover in the Preliminary Round and Yarrow beat Yoker 3-2 in the other match. The first round matches were played on Sunday, July 5 and the results were as follows: Dalmuir 3 Yarrow 2, Radnor Park 4 Victoria Park 1, Clydebank 3 Scotstounhill 2, Singer 3 Albion 2. The semi-finals will be played on Sunday, July 12, and the fixtures are as follows: Dalmuir v Radnor Park at Scotstounhill B.C. and Clydebank v Singer at Old Kilpatrick B.C. The final will be played at Albion on Sunday, July 19.

The CDBA Top 10 competition will commence on Friday, July 10. The Preliminary Round ties are as follows: Scotstounhill v Dalmuir at Old Kilpatrick B.C. and Albion v Clydebank at Singer B.C.

The week 11 games in the CDBA David Syme League were played on Monday, June 29. Leaders Clydebank got back to winning ways by beating Radnor Park, one of their closest challengers. Dalmuir leapfrogged Radnor into second position with a convincing victory at Singer who are on a bad run at the moment. Albion won their away match against Old Kilpatrick to go joint fourth, alongside Yoker who drew at home to Victoria Park. The full results from the David Syme League Week 11 were: Old Kilpatrick 1 Albion 3, Clydebank 4 Radnor Park 0, Singer 0 Dalmuir 4, Yoker 2 Victoria Park 2, Yarrow 4 Scotstounhill 0. The league placings after 11 matches are as follows: 1. Clydebank 36 points, 2. Dalmuir 29 points, 3. Radnor Park 26 points, 4= Yoker/Albion 25 points, 6. Singer/Yarrow 20 points, 8. Scotstounhill 17 points, 8. Victoria Park 12 points, 10. Old Kilpatrick 10 points. The David Syme week 12 fixtures were due to be played on Monday, July 6. The matches were as follows: Radnor Park v Albion, Dalmuir v Yarrow, Victoria Park v Singer, Scotstounhill v Old Kilpatrick, Yoker v Clydebank. The District’s Senior Bowlers will take a break from league action during July and will resume the David Syme on Monday, August 3.

The CDBA Senior Top 10 will start on Monday, July 13. The preliminary round fixtures are: Albion v Radnor Park at Yoker B.C. and Dalmuir v Singer at Scotstounhill B.C. The Adams Love competition for the District’s Seniors is due to be held at Yarrow B.C. on Thursday, July 9. Dalmuir B.C. are the current holders.

District Club News Scotstounhill B.C. have provided results from some of their recent competitions. The Livingstone Memorial Trophy was held on Sunday, June 21 and the results were: Winners – Jean Graham, Anne Chisolm, George Bruce and Joe Currie (Clydebank B.C.), Runners-up – Sharon Flynn, Archie Gosland, Carol-Ann Beattie and Willie Drysdale (Yarrow B.C.). The A.J. Simpson Mixed Two Bowl Pairs took place at Scotstounhill on Sunday 4th July. The winners were Liz McVicar and John Nugent who beat Frances Farmer and Jim Tait in the Final. The other semi-finalists were Diane Steele and Michael McAlinden and Alice Trodden and Gordon Johnstone.

The following matches will be held at District Clubs on Saturday, July 11 (2pm start unless stated): Dalmuir – Pasta Day, Old Kilpatrick – Mixed Balloted Pairs, Radnor Park – Away Friendly v Westerton, Singer – Tommy Summers Trophy, Yarrow – Nominated Mixed Triples.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association Once again, congratulations to the Dumbartonshire B.A. Under 25’s on winning the Under 25 Scottish Cities and Counties Championship last weekend The boys were in action again on Sunday, July 5 as they attempt the “Double” by winning the Scottish Under 25 Cup. They were up against a strong Glasgow Under 25 side in the quarter finals and emerged 70-60 winners. Their semi-final match against Midlothian Under 25 team will be held on Sunday, July 26. The DBA Top 10 competition started recently and a full round up will be provided in next week’s column.

Bowls Scotland The Ladies District 11 Finals were held at Clydebank B.C. on Sunday, June 28. Many congratulations to the following Clubs for getting to the Scottish Final Stages at Northfield B.C., Ayr later this month. The successful ladies were as follows: Singles – Libby McGuinness (Ardrishaig), Pairs – Cardross, Triples – Dumbarton (Sarah Louise Miller, Marilynne Phillips and Margaret Shields), Fours – Oban, Senior Fours – Garelochead, Senior Singles – Helen McLean (Oban). As well as being an excellent bowler, Helen McLean has been acting as District 11 Ladies Secretary this season. The Ladies District 23 finals were held recently and congratulations are due to Frances Farmer, Fiona Tait and Diane Steele of Scotstounhill B.C. who qualified for Northfield. Unfortunately, the Scotstounhill Mixed Pairs team of Charlie and Diane Steele just missed out on this occasion.

This columnist would also like to give his personal thanks to Bill Adams who has been the District 11 Gents Secretary for a number of years. Bill, who is an Honorary Member of Clydebank Bowling Club, has had to resign from the post this year. Bill has been a tremendous help to all the local clubs with his friendly advice and support over the last few seasons.

Glasgow Bowling Association The Glasgow Bowling Association Championship Finals were held at Yarrow B.C. on Saturday, July 4 and will reported once the results become available. However, hearing reports that the Yarrow team of Matt Naismith, George Gardner and Tony Cochrane are the new Glasgow B.A. Triples champions. Well done guys!
