Clydebank And District Bowling Association The week eight matches in the CDBA League were played on Friday, June 26. There were a couple of extraordinary results involving the teams at the top of the league. Second placed Singer were up against third placed Old Kilpatrick and a very close game was expected. However, it did not turn out that way as Old Kilpatrick took maximum points with a 14-0 victory. A tight game was also expected between leaders Dalmuir and Radnor Park. Although most of the individual games were very close, Dalmuir ran out 12-2 winners. In the other matches, Clydebank beat Victoria Park convincingly to go third, but both Yarrow and Scotstounhill had slender victories against Yoker and Albion respectively. The full results from Friday, June 26 (week eight) of the CDBA League were as follows: Yarrow 8 Yoker 6, Scotstounhill 8 Albion 6, Old Kilpatrick 14 Singer 0, Dalmuir 12 Radnor Park 2, Clydebank 12 Victoria Park 2. The league positions after seven matches are as follows: 1. Dalmuir 84points, 2. Old Kilpatrick 73 points, 3. Clydebank 67 points, 4. Singer 66 points, 5. Yarrow 63 points, 6. Radnor Park 54 points, 7. Albion 52 points, 8. Yoker 49 points, 9. Scotstounhill 34 points, 10. Victoria Park 18 points. Last week’s results put Singer out of the race and the league is now down to two Clubs, Dalmuir and Old Kilpatrick, with Dalmuir having an 11 point lead going into the final league matches. The final fixtures (week eight) due to be held on Friday, July 3 are as follows: Albion v Radnor Park, Clydebank v Yoker, Dalmuir v Yarrow, Old Kilpatrick v Scotstounhill, Victoria Park v Singer.

The week 10 games in the CDBA David Syme League were played on Monday, June 22 as the competition entered its second half. Leaders Clydebank dropped two points by drawing with Yarrow but still managed to extend their lead at the top to six points. The reason for this was that Dalmuir suffered their first whitewash of the season, going down 4-0 at lowly Scotstounhill. Radnor Park took advantage of this defeat and jumped into second place after beating Victoria Park. There were also good wins for Albion and Yoker but Singer lost their third match in a row. The full results from the David Syme League week 10 were: Albion 4 Singer 0, Scotstounhill 4 Dalmuir 0, Old Kilpatrick 0 Yoker 4, Yarrow 2 Clydebank 2, Radnor Park 4 Victoria Park 0. The league placings after 10 games are as follows: 1. Clydebank 32 points, 2. Radnor Park 26 points, 3. Dalmuir 25 points, 4. Yoker 23 points, 5. Albion 22 points, 6. Singer 20 points, 7. Scotstounhill 17 points, 8. Yarrow 16 points, 9. Victoria Park 10 points, 10. Old Kilpatrick 9 points. The David Syme week 11 fixtures were due to be played on Monday, June 29. The matches were as follows: Old Kilpatrick v Albion, Clydebank v Radnor Park, Singer v Dalmuir, Yoker v Victoria Park, Yarrow v Scotstounhill. The following Week 12 fixtures will take place on Monday 6th July: Radnor Park v Albion, Dalmuir v Yarrow, Victoria Park v Singer, Scotstounhill v Old Kilpatrick, Yoker v Clydebank.

The CDBA A.J. Campbell Singles Final between Andy Roberts and Drew Scott was held at Albion B.C. on Monday, June 22. On this occasion the “Golden Oldie” was too experienced for the “Young Pup” and was able to master the tricky Albion green better. Congratulations to Drew Scott from Radnor Park who defeated Old Kilpatrick’s Andy Roberts 21-9. The trophy was presented by District President Colin Ballantyne.

The CDBA Top Five competition commenced on Sunday, June 28 with the preliminary round ties. All fours clubs had selection difficulties due to the busy weekend of Dumbartonshire County competitions. The results were as follows: Dalmuir beat Old Kilpatrick (walkover) and Yoker v Yarrow. The following first round matches will be played on Sunday, July 5: Dalmuir v Yoker/Yarrow at Clydebank, Victoria Park v Radnor Park at Singer, Scotstounhill v Clydebank at Radnor Park and Singer v Albion. The CDBA Top 10 is due to commence on Friday, July 10. The Senior Top 10 will start on Monday, July 13. The Adams Love competition is due to be held at Yarrow B.C. on Thursday, July 9.

District Club News There are a good number of matches on at the District Clubs on Saturday, July 4, as follows: Albion – David Ford Trophy, Dalmuir – Home Friendly v Dumbuck, Singer – Home Friendly v Radnor Park, Scotstounhill – A.J. Simpson Mixed Two Bowl Pairs. Clydebank B.C will be holding their annual Ladies Open Fours on Sunday, July 5.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association The Dumbartonshire County Cup was held on Saturday, June 27. Congratulations to Rock B.C. for winning this year’s competition with the maximum of 8 points plus a record breaking +70 shots. Helensburgh B.C. were runners-up.

The Dumbartonshire Bowling Association Championship Finals were held at Milton of Campsie B.C. on Sunday, June 28. The weather stayed dry and the large crowd of spectators enjoyed the superb bowls on show. The following results are just in: Gents Singles – Graeme Stewart (Singer) 21 Jim Spalding (Colgrain) 10, Pairs – Dumbuck beat Kirkintilloch (walkover), Triples – Argyll 17 Woodilee 14, Fours – Vale of Leven 19 Kirkintilloch 14, Senior Fours – Radnor Park 17 Rock 16 (after extra end). The Junior Singles Final was played at Radnor Park B.C. on Friday, June 26. The result was Chris Mair (Dumbarton) 21 Andrew Calder (Auchinloch) 13. Congratulations to all the winners and, in particular, the Radnor Park Senior Rink of Jim McLean, Colin Greenlees, Bobby McLachlan and Andy McBeth.

The Dumbartonshire Under-25 team were also in action on Sunday, June 28 in the Scottish Counties and Cities Under-25 Championship final stages at Sighthill B.C. in Edinburgh. The team played their semi-final match in the morning and achieved a fine victory against Angus Dundee. After a spot of lunch the boys took to the green for the Final against a strong Ayrshire outfit. However, there was no stopping the DBA Under 25’s and they went on to comfortably lift the trophy. Congratulations to the new Scottish Under 25 Champions.

Bowls Scotland The Bowls Scotland District 23 Finals were held at Anniesland B.C. on Thursday, June 18 and the results were as follows: Junior Singles – Owen Scambler (Yarrow) beat Jonathan Douglas (Milngavie), Gents Singles – Grant Greenhorn (Westerton) beat Jamie McKechnie (Partick), Pairs – Michael Shields and Tony Cochrane (Yarrow) beat Burnbank, Triples – Callum Taggart/Alistair Greer/Kevin Bain (Hyndland) beat Yarrow, Fours – Hyndland beat Partick, Senior Singles – Jimmy Young (Milngavie) 21 Gordon Frame (Yarrow) 17, Senior Fours – St Vincent 13 Yarrow (Jim Cuthbertson/Gregor Kennedy/Ricky McDougall/Matt Naismith) 12 (after extra end). Congratulations to the Yarrow bowlers in particular for getting to Northfield for the Scottish Championships.

Glasgow Bowling Association Bowlers from Yarrow B.C. were also participating in the Glasgow Bowling Association Championships recently. The first semi-finals evening was held at Sandyhills B.C. on Tuesday, June 16. In the Junior Singles, Owen Scambler (Yarrow) lost to Craig Milne (Hillington). The second second semi-finals day was held at Victoria Park B.C. on Wednesday, June 17. The Yarrow triples team were victorious against Milton of Campsie. The Glasgow Bowling Association Championship Finals will be held at Yarrow B.C. on Saturday, July 4 commencing at 2pm. Yarrow are due to play Whitevale B.C. in the Triples Final.
