Clydebank And District Bowling Association The CDBA League is now two thirds of the way through and incredibly there are still eight teams who could win the league. With yet more surprising results in the week six matches, the league is the most competitive it has been for many years. There were signs of last season’s form from Clydebank B.C. on Friday when they managed to defeat joint leaders Old Kilpatrick by 10-4.

This result pulls Clydebank up the table to fourth position from seventh place. Dalmuir had another victory to stay in top spot, this time beating Albion by virtue of the bonus points. Singer are quietly going about their business after beating Yarrow and moving into joint second place. After a fine run, Radnor Park took a step back after losing heavily to Yoker. The full results from Friday, June 12 (week six) of the CDBA League were as follows: Clydebank 10 Old Kilpatrick 4, Scotstounhill 10 Victoria Park 4, Dalmuir 8 Albion 6, Singer 8 Yarrow 6, Yoker 13 Radnor Park 1. The league positions after six matches are as follows: 1.Dalmuir 58 points, 2= Old Kilpatrick/Singer 50 points, 4. Clydebank 45 points, 5. Albion 44 points, 6= Radnor Park/Yarrow 43 points, 8. Yoker 41 points, 9. Scotstounhill 22 points, 10. Victoria Park 16 points. The fixtures for Week 7 due to be held on Friday, June 19 are as follows: Albion v Yarrow, Clydebank v Scotstounhill, Dalmuir v Victoria Park, Old Kilpatrick v Radnor Park, Singer v Yoker.

The week eight matches in the CDBA David Syme League were played on Monday, June 8. Clydebank continued their fine form with yet another away win, this time at Singer. Dalmuir and Yoker fought out a draw at the Stevenson Street Green. The Old Kilpatrick seniors achieved their first victory of the season with a clean sweep over Yarrow. Similarly, Victoria Park won their first match by winning away at Albion. The full results from the David Syme League Week 8 were: Albion 1 Victoria Park 3, Dalmuir 2 Yoker 2, Old Kilpatrick 4 Yarrow 0, Singer 0 Clydebank 4, Radnor Park 2 Scotstounhill 2. The league placings after eight games are as follows: 1. Clydebank 29 points, 2. Dalmuir 21 points, 3= Yoker/Radnor Park/Singer 19 points, 6. Albion 15 points, 7. Yarrow 11 points, 8= Scotstounhill/Victoria Park/Old Kilpatrick 9 points. The David Syme Week 9 fixtures were due to be played on Monday 15th June. The matches were as follows: Clydebank v Albion, Singer v Radnor Park, Yoker v Scotstounhill, Dalmuir v Old Kilpatrick, Victoria Park v Yarrow. The following Week 10 fixtures will take place on Monday, June 22: Albion v Singer, Scotstounhill v Dalmuir, Old Kilpatrick v Yoker, Yarrow v Clydebank, Radnor Park v Victoria Park.

The quarter finals of the CDBA A.J. Campbell singles competition were held on Monday 8th June. The four winners were due to meet in the semi-finals on Monday, June 15, as follows: Peter Mason (Dalmuir) v Drew Scott (Radnor Park) at Victoria Park B.C. and Andy Roberts (Old Kilpatrick) v John Nugent (Scotstounhill) at Radnor Park B.C. The A.J.Campbell final will be held at Albion B.C. on Monday, June 22.

District Club News The Pat Connolly Mixed Pairs competition was held at Singer B.C. on Saturday, June 13. The winners this season were Ann and Ian Craig who beat Grace and Ross Ward in the final. The other semi-finalists were Nora Bell and Liam Sharpe and Margaret and Billy Taylor. Albion B.C. hosted their Two Bowl Pairs on Saturday. John Daly and Dennis Morris won the competition by beating Ronnie McKinnon and Ian Campbell in the final. In the Andy Massie Triples at Radnor Park, Graham Stewart, Jim Pritchard and Alex McBain defeated Willie Smith, Gus MacArthur and Allan Adams in this year’s final. The Clydebank B.C. Millenium Triples was won by J. McGinley, F. McGinley and G. Bruce.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association The Inter District Finals of the Dumbartonshire County Championships were held at Old Kilpatrick B.C. on Tuesday, June 9. Dumbartonshire East achieved their third win out of six matches in the South Section of the Andrew Hamilton Trophy on Saturday, June 13. The team had a home game against Renfrewshire South at Old Kilpatrick B.C. DBA East had a comfortable 122-106 victory. The top two teams in the South Section, Lanarkshire South and Wigtownshire, were up against each other and the home team came out on top with a 124-102 scoreline. The other results in the South Section were as follows: Dumfriesshire 143 Glasgow East 108, Ayrshire South 109 Stewartry 107. On Saturday, June 20, DBA East play their final league match of the season at Singer B.C. They are at home to Ayrshire South and Singer member Bobby Totten will be celebrating his 100th County Cap. In the West Section of the Andrew Hamilton Trophy, Dumbartonshire West suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Renfrewshire West at Wellington Park B.C. The final score was Renfrewshire West 120 DBA West 86. After five wins in succession, Glasgow West had a shock defeat at home to Ayrshire North, albeit by a single shot. The score from Thornliebank B.C. was Glasgow West 109 Ayrshire North 110. The other West Section scores were as follows: Clackmannan & Kinross 122 Stirling County West 121, Argyll & Bute v Lanarkshire West (TBC). The West Section fixtures for Saturday 20th June are as follows: Glasgow West v Clackmannan & Kinross at Titwood B.C., Ayrshire North v DBA West at Kay Park B.C.

The Dumbartonshire Under 25’s team achieved another fine result on Sunday, June 7. In the Scottish Cup match against Edinburgh & Leith, which was held at Bellahouston B.C., the Under 25’s achieved a fine 65-60 victory.

Bowls Scotland The Bowls Scotland National Championships District 11 Finals were held at Clydebank B.C. on Sunday, June 14. On a warm and sunny day and in front of a vast crowd of spectators, the results were as follows: Junior Singles – Paul Kane (Brock) beat Lewis Campbell (Radnor Park), Gents Singles – Archie Johnstone (Campbelltown) 21 Alan Air (Helensburgh) 15, Gents Pairs – Colgrain 22 Renton 16, Gents Triples – Garelochead 13 Renton 11, Fours – Tarbert 24 Radnor Park 12, Senior Singles – Peter Mason (Dalmuir) 21 Donald Jenkinson (Eastfield) 5, Senior Fours – Argyll 20 Clydebank 5, Mixed Pairs – Tarbert 19 Oban 16.
