SCOTSTOUN Muay Thai prospect Nico Carrillo is set to do battle for the WBC under-18s title at the Clydebank Blitz Two on June 27.

The young fighter will face the biggest test of his career at the expected sell out show at the Playdrome, representing his home gym, Clydebank'’s Glasgow Thai Boxing Academy.

He will face Dumbarton’s Ross Trainer, who represents the D-Unit gym. The title shot has come after a very impressive win at April’s Power of Scotland event against the highly talented Sean Hannigan.

The 16-year-old was the underdog going into that fight with many writing him off, however the up and comer took the win comfortably on points and even gained the runner-up spot for fighter of the night.

Carrillo can’t wait for the Clydebank showdown, he said: "“I'’m buzzing to be on the Clydebank Blitz 2 alone, never mind having a title shot. I missed the first show last year as I was in Thailand, and when I seen how good it turned out I was gutted I couldn'’t be part of it.

“"Now my fight is for a WBC under 18’s title, it’s just that cherry on top. Because straight after it I'’m heading back to Thailand again for the summer.” Craig Floan, head coach at Glasgow Thai Boxing Academy, said: "“Nico has earned his shot. He'’s a major talent and many people within the Muay Thai community find it hard to believe he is only 16.

“"He has a very bright future. Our home show is a great stage for him to head off to Thailand on high. I'’m sure both boys will give it their all to win the belt. Both relatively local boys in Dumbarton and Scotstoun so I’m sure there will be loads of noise."”
