There were some more very interesting results as the top of the league changed hands once again. After a great victory over Clydebank last week, Yarrow continued their fine form with another crushing win, this time over Victoria Park. Dalmuir dropped down to second position despite beating Old Kilpatrick. Clydebank and Yoker got back on track after good victories and Old Kilpatrick are very much still in contention. The full results from League Week 3 games were as follows: Yarrow 12 Victoria Park 2, Singer 8 Radnor Park 6, Clydebank 10 Albion 4, Dalmuir 8 Old Kilpatrick 6, Yoker 10 Scotstounhill 4. The league positions after three matches are as follows: 1. Yarrow 33 points, 2. Dalmuir 30 points, 3. Clydebank 25 points, 4= Old Kilpatrick/Yoker, 6. Singer 22 points, 7. Radnor Park 18 points, 8. Albion 16 points, 9. Scotstounhill 10 points, 10. Victoria Park 8 points. The Week 4 fixtures will be held on Friday 29th May and are as follows: Albion v Victoria Park, Clydebank v Singer, Dalmuir v Yoker, Old Kilpatrick v Yarrow, Radnor Park v Scotstounhill.

The week five matches in the CDBA David Syme League for the District’s senior bowlers were played on Monday, May 18. The top two Clubs maintained their position over 4-0 victories. Dalmuir moved into third spot after beating Victoria Park. The full results from seniors league week five were: Yarrow 2 Albion 2, Clydebank 4 Scotstounhill 0, Dalmuir 4 Victoria Park 0, Radnor Park 4 Old Kilpatrick 0 and Singer 0 Yoker 4. The league placings after 5 games are as follows: 1. Clydebank 18 points, 2. Yoker 16 points, 3. Dalmuir 14 points, 4= Singer/Radnor Park 12 points, 6. Albion 11 points, 7. Yarrow 8 points, 8. Scotstounhill 4 points, 9. Old Kilpatrick 3 points, 10. Victoria Park 2 points. The David Syme Week 6 fixtures were due to be played on Monday, May 25. The matches were as follows: Albion v Dalmuir, Old Kilpatrick v Clydebank, Victoria Park v Scotstounhill, Yoker v Radnor Park and Singer v Yarrow. The following Week 7 fixtures will take place on Monday, June 1: Yoker v Albion, Clydebank v Dalmuir, Victoria Park v Old Kilpatrick, Yarrow v Radnor Park and Scotstounhill v Singer.

The semi-final matches in the Seniors Top Nine competition were played on Wednesday, May 20. The results were as follows: Yoker 2 Singer 1 (at Yarrow) and Dalmuir 2 Scotstounhill 1 (at Yoker). The Seniors Top 9 Final was due to be played at Albion BC on Sunday, May 24 and the result will be reported in next week’s column. The final games in the inter-district 5 x 4’s competition will be played on Sunday, May 31. CDBA will be taking on Dumbarton Associated Clubs at Albion B.C.

District Club News The annual Memorial Trophy was held at Albion B.C. on Saturday, May 16. This year the competition was won by Tam Mackie and John Trodden. The runners-up were Archie Pritchard and Ronnie McKinnon. The Two Bowl Pairs were held at Clydebank B.C. on Sunday 24th May. The competition was won by Craig Laird and Connor Duncan who defeated Joe and Elaine Campbell in a close final. On Saturday, May 23, Clydebank held their annual Mixed Pairs competition. This season’s winners were F. Kane and G. Kane who beat Carol Laird and Mick McDermott in the final.

Scotstounhill held their annual Invitation Triples on Sunday, May 17. The tournament was won by Mick McDermott, Billy Adams and Grant Russell from Clydebank B.C. The runners-up were David Flavell (Clydebank), Stuart Livingston and Charlie Steele (both Scotstounhill). The other semi-finalists were a home team skipped by Alex Carrigan and John Nugent’s Windsor Bar triple. Dalmuir’s Curry & Sweep competition was won by Willie McIntyre, John Duncan III and Jim Balmain.

District Club fixtures for the coming weekend are as follows: Saturday 30th May – Albion - Chieften Cup, Clydebank – Bowls & Pakora Day, Dalmuir – Past President’s Rinks, Old Kilpatrick – Paul Lucas Memorial Pairs. On Sunday, May 31, Scotstounhill will host the annual Paton Gardener competition and Dalmuir will host the Rutherford Trophy for the County’s Under 25 bowlers.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association The Dumbartonshire County Championships continued on Tuesday, May 19 with the second round matches. The third round of matches in the 2015 Andrew Hamilton Trophy were played on Saturday, May 25. The Dumbartonshire East team put in a valiant effort against South Section leaders Lanarkshire South but just lost out by four shots overall. The final score from Condorrat B.C. was DBA East 119 Lanarkshire South 123. The other results in the South Section were as follows: Stewartry 122 Glasgow East 107, Wigtownshire v Dumfriesshire (to be confirmed), Renfrewshire South 121 Ayrshire South 118. In the West Section the Dumbartonshire West team suffered their third successive defeat by losing heavily away to Glasgow West. The match was held at St Vincent B.C. and the score was Glasgow West 126 DBA West 101. The other results in the West Section were as follows: Stirling County West 122 Argyll and Bute 111, Lanarkshire West 132 Clackmannan & Kinross 107, Ayrshire North 110 Renfrewshire West 117. These results leave Glasgow West joint top with Stirling County West. The fixtures for Week 4 matches on Saturday 30th May are as follows: South Section – DBA East v Stewartry at Lenzie B.C. West Section – Glasgow West v Stirling County West at Bearsden B.C. and Clackmannan & Kinross v DBA East at Clackmannan B.C.

The Dumbartonshire BA Under-25 team are having a great season so far playing in the West Section of the Junior County championship. In their first match they defeated West Lothian by 32 shots at Greenfaulds B.C. Their second match, on Sunday, May 17 at Colgrain B.C. they beat Stirlingshire by the narrow margin of three shots. This set them up nicely for their final section match against Renfrewshire on Sunday 24th May. Once again, the Juniors were on top form and ran out 125-95 winners at Paisley Victoria B.C. These results mean the DBA Under 25’s qualify for the semi-final stage of the competition to be played next month.

Bowls Scotland The Bowls Scotland National Championships reached the second round stage on Thursday, May 21.
