CLYDEBANK BMX club the Western Titans were back in action as the cream of young BMX talent descended on Broadwood stadium for the British Series at the weekend.

More than 600 riders took part in the first competition weekend in Scotland for 23 years.

Western Titans had plenty to be proud of with Harrison Bell performing strongly in the male eight category, finishing ninth on Saturday and an impressive third on Sunday.

His teammate Peter Crowson made the top 10 in 13-14 cruiser both days while Ryan Anderson achieved two 11th places finishes in the male 15 category. Meanwhile, Daniel McGrory achieved a pair of top 10 finishes across the weekend in the male 11.

The lion’s share of the 37 Scots competing came from Broadwood’s own Cumbernauld Centurions (20) with seven Musselburgh Monarchs and 10 Western Titans also taking part.

The event was delivered in partnership with North Lanarkshire leisure. North Lanarkshire leisure chief executive, Blane Dodds said: “It’s been a pleasure for us to welcome the British BMX Series and so many riders to Broadwood, the action has been amazing — my jaw was on the floor watching some of the jumps.

“We created this track as a community facility but we always had high hopes we could also attract the top competitions so it’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying the sun here in Cumbernauld.” Bob McFarlane, Scottish Power national youth racing series events officer for Scottish Cycling, added: “This has been a fantastic weekend of fast paced and exciting BMX racing with some of the best riders from across the country competing. On behalf of Scottish Cycling, I’d like to congratulate the Cumbernauld Centurions, North Lanarkshire Leisure and the Scottish BMX community for putting on an excellent event. Feedback from riders and teams has been great and they have really enjoyed the trip to Scotland.”
