McGuire had his first pro fight in September last year and has stepped into the ring twice since, winning all three on points. He will fight in the Gorbals on May 2 and at the Thistle Hotel on May 23.

The fighter, of Drumchapel Boxing Club, wants as many fights as possible in 2015 to give him the chance of building up a record which could start to be noticed on a national level. His desire to box means he isn’t fazed by taking on two fights in three weeks, at short notice.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it to be honest. I didn’t think I was going to be on it but I’m pleased to get the fight.

“Because I’m on this one at the last minute I’m not too sure who I’m going to be fighting.

“That’s the plan, to keep getting fights and keep the winning going. I need to keep fit and keep training and be in the best shape I can possibly be.

“If I get a shot at a Scottish title I’d be delighted, you need a bit of luck in boxing sometimes but I just need to make sure I’m ready if an opportunity ever comes up.” McGuire has noticed improvements in himself since making the step up to the pro ranks, however he insists there is still more to come.

He added: “I’ve improved a lot, I’ve still got a lot to learn though. I’m learning on the job at the moment.

“I’m picking up different things and how to pace myself. I’m only at four rounds just now but when it starts going up to six, eight, 10 maybe even 12 I’m going to need to learn how to go over a longer distance.”
