The visitors found themselves three up courtesy of a brace from Calum Smith and a goal from Tommy Coyne. Yoker desperately tried to get back into the game and managed to score two goals.

An own goal from Coyne was followed by a powerful free kick by defender John Harvey a few minutes from time. Yoker’s efforts were not rewarded however as Linlithgow held on.

It was a bright and sunny day in Clydebank and Linlithgow brought a large travelling support who filled the terracing at both ends of the ground.

It only took Linlithgow a couple of seconds to get their first chance of the match, midfielder Ruari MacLennan broke free of the Yoker defence and shot from the edge of the box but the strike was well saved by Craig Winslow in goals.

Ten minutes later Winslow was called into action again, this time denying Roddy MacLennan following a fantastic low shot from the tricky midfielder.

Linlithgow then took the lead on 20 minutes with a fantastic header from Calum Smith. Rose won a free kick on the half-way line and the ball was launched forward into the Yoker box — the big striker rose above the defence, and scored a looping header over Winslow.

Yoker almost drew level on the stroke of half-time. Greg Maitland showed his pace and ability as he glided past three defenders but his low shot was well saved by Scott Christie.

The first half was brought to a close and the start of the second was delayed following a fan taking unwell and requiring an ambulance.

The half was restarted 30 minutes later and Linlithgow instantly doubled their advantage. After some nice interplay by Roddy MacLennan and Tommy Coyne. Coyne managed to slot the ball into the bottom corner and the game looked to be fading away from Yoker’s grasp.

A few minutes later and Linlithgow made it three. Coyne controlled a long ball forward and played a pass to his strike partner Smith who fired the ball into the bottom corner.

With half an hour to go Yoker scored to restore some pride, a corner was played in and Coyne failed to connect properly with the ball and diverted it into his own net.

A late goal by Yoker defender John Harvey a few minutes from time set up a grandstand finish. A powerful free kick from the edge of the box found its way into the net and the stage was set for a dramatic comeback which had looked impossible.

Despite the late push, it was not to be for Whe Ho. It was a valiant effort by the players who were considered massive underdogs at the start of play. With their Scottish Cup run now over, John McAulay’s side will now have to turn their attention to league duties as the look to pull away from the bottom half of the Super League First Division.
