The penultimate games in the Gents Short Carpet League were played on Wednesday, February 11. Long term league leaders Yoker were at home to second placed Clydebank needing eight points to secure the title. However, it wasn’t to be as Yoker appeared to freeze and Clydebank achieved their best result of the season, winning by 9-1. This means that with only one match remaining, Clydebank are three points in front and are now strong favourites to retain the trophy. Yarrow stayed in third position despite losing at Singer and there are only four points separating the next four Clubs. Old Kilpatrick Singer did not have a Week 17 match. The league positions after Week 17 are as follows: 1. Clydebank 103 points, 2. Yoker 100 points, 3. Yarrow 81 points, 4. Dalmuir 78 points, 5. Singer 77 points, 6. Radnor Park 76 points, 7. Albion 75 points, 8. Old Kilpatrick 66 points, 9. Victoria Park 24 points. Yarrow have played all their matches and will sit out the final week. Clydebank need 8 points in their last game against Old Kilpatrick to be sure of winning the league. Yoker must win 10-0 and hope that Clydebank slip up. The Short Carpet Champion of Champions knockout competition will commence with the preliminary round ties on Wednesday, February 25. The games are as follows: Section A: Triples – Singer v Albion at Yoker, Pairs – Clydebank v Yarrow at Yoker, Singles – Albion v Radnor Park at Yoker. Section B: Triples – Dalmuir v Victoria Park at Old Kilpatrick, Pairs – Radnor Park v Dalmuir at Old Kilpatrick, Singles – Yoker v Singer at Old Kilpatrick.

Congratulations to Clydebank BC on winning the Senior Short Carpet league with one game still to go. The week 17 matches were played on Monday, February 9 and as expected, Clydebank won their home game against Dalmuir to clinch the title. With Radnor Park idle, Yoker jumped back into second place after a fighting draw at Scotstounhill. The full results from week 17 games were as follows: Victoria Park 2 Albion 4, Scotstounhill 3 Yoker 3, Clydebank 4 Dalmuir 2 and Old Kilpatrick 6 Singer 0. The Senior Short Carpet knockout competitions will start on Monday, February 23. The triples matches are split into Sections A and B whereas the pairs and singles comprise one section only. The preliminary round ties are: triples section A – Albion v Scotstounhill at Clydebank, triples section B – Old Kilpatrick v Victoria Park at Clydebank, Pairs – Dalmuir v Radnor Park at Victoria Park, Singles – Scotstounhill v Albion at Victoria Park.

The week 17 games in the CDBA Dominoes League were played on Monday, February 9. League leaders Dalmuir extended the gap at the top to 6 points with four matches left to play. They defeated Albion for the first time this season. Albion retain second place, although they share this position with Victoria Park and Radnor Park A. The week 17 results were as follows: Albion 6 Dalmuir 9, Radnor Park A 10 Clydebank 5, Singer 5 Radnor Park B 10. The league positions after week 17 games are as follows: 1. Dalmuir 22 points, 2= Albion/Victoria Park/Radnor Park A 16 points, 5. Radnor Park B 14 points, 6. Singer 10 points, 7. Clydebank 8 points. The Week 18 games in the Dominoes League were due to be played on Monday, February 16, as follows: Singer v Dalmuir, Radnor Park B v Clydebank, Victoria Park v Albion, Radnor Park A no game. The week 19 games are scheduled for Monday, February 23, as follows: Dalmuir v Radnor Park A, Radnor Park B v Albion, Clydebank v Victoria Park. Singer do not have a week 19 match.

Scottish Indoor Bowling Association Congratulations to Scotland’s under 25 bowlers after winning the International Series at Glasgow IBC at the weekend. The Scottish Juniors beat England, Wales and Ireland to top the league table without losing a single match. This performance augers well for the future and Darren Gualtieri of Whiteinch and Richard O’Malley and Kevin Anderson (both Dumbarton) will have gained much valuable experience.

The Whiteinch senior bowlers notched up another good victory in the Senior Scottish Cup match on Wednesday, February 11. They defeated West of Scotland 65-58 at Glasgow IBC in their first round match. Allander and Dumbarton were also in action last Wednesday although they didn’t fare so well. Allander were beaten 65-55 by Glasgow and Dumbarton lost 75-48 against strong contenders Coatbridge. Whiteinch now play Coatbridge at Glasgow IBC in their Round Two tie today (Wednesday) starting at 11.00am. The round one matches in the Ladies Scottish Cup were played on Saturday, February 14. The Allander ladies were well beaten by West of Scotland at Dumbarton IBC, the final score being 100-55. The Dumbarton ladies scratched from the competition leaving Whiteinch to go into the round two draw.

The Dumbarton gents team have a very important match on Saturday, February 21. They have a relegation play-off match against Fraserburgh with their Division One status at stake. The match will be held at East Fife IBC on Sunday, February 22 with a 2.00pm start. In the Gents League Division Two West, leaders Auchinleck beat second placed Whiteinch 112-76 and Allander won their fourth game of the season, winning 59-58 at home to Prestwick. Allander will play their final match at away to Glasgow on Saturday, February 21. The Whiteinch Gents have finished their campaign.
