Gallacher, who represents the Clydebank based gym Glasgow Thai Boxing Academy, will fly out to Phoenix, Arizona with his coach Craig Floan on February 16 and fight for a world title at the weight of 61.5kg on February 20.

He faces local fighter John Bruer who holds the title.

The fight which will be held in a 1000 seater theatre and shown on American television.

Gallacher told SportScene: “I’m really looking forward to flying over to America to fight. I couldn’t believe it when the promoter contacted one of my sponsors and asked if I was available.

“It was just too good to be true. I’m honoured to be given the opportunity. I don’t know a great deal about my opponent, “I’ve only seen a few videos of him on the internet but I feel confident in myself and the coaching and training I get at GTBA.” This opportunity hasn’t come cheap however with the fighter required to fund his own flights. Fundraising events had to be organised to finance the trip and Gallacher is determined not to let all that hard work go to waste by putting in a good display in the showpiece event.

Gallacher said: “Everyone at the gym, my family and friends have done everything they could to help with the fundraising and I can’t thank them enough for it, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be heading out there.

“I’m going out there to not only win the world title but promote Scotland and Scottish Thai boxing.” A fundraiser still to take place is the GTBA ‘Sparathon’ on January 25, a day of sparring with some of the best of Scottish Muay Thai talent, where fighters gather for one day donating the small fee of £5 to spar.

This takes place at the GTBA gym units one and two Clydeholm Industrial Estate on Hamilton Street in Clydebank, opposite Holm Park.
