The club’s under-12s side travelled to Coatbridge to take on local rivals Tir Conaill Harps, as they vied for their first piece of silverware for the season — but fell just short.

The final was the culmination of a year of hard work and endless hours effort to establish the Gaels under-age section in Clydebank — and it has proven to be a major success.

The club has enjoyed a successful 12 months with full participation in three Scottish Blitz events, full participation in all seven Scottish GAA under-12 championship matches, growth of squad throughout 2014 — and participation in Celtic Foundation/GAA Development Camp.

Despite eventually falling to defeat, Jack Flanagan, Luke Smith, Anthony Lawless and James McDonald all produced inspired performances against an excellent Tir Conaill outfit in what proved to be an exciting game.

There goals aplenty, including a beautiful top corner finish from Jack Westwater, as the side went in search of the victory.

A second quarter injury to goalkeeper Matthew Mathieson, who was enjoying an excellent display in goals, didn’t help matters for the Gaels as they trailed by seven after the first quarter.

However with Conor McGuinness deputising in goals, Gaels found their rhythm to win both the second and third quarters — to set up a final quarter showdown between the two sides.

At one point it looked as though Glasgow Gaels would turn it around but in the end Tir Conaill’s better fitness came to fore as they ran out deserving winners on the day.

The final Skill Master Medal of the year was awarded to Lee McDade for an outstanding defensive performance. Jack Westwater was presented with an Under Armour training hoody for being the Gaels player of the year.

The club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the people who have helped establish the club in 2014.

This includes sponsors, ESI Scotland, coaches Derek Harvey, Shane Moran, Sinead Curley, Siobhan Akers, Ronan McDermott and Aidan Kerlin — and assistant coaches Declan Murtagh, Aoife Cusack, Conor McDermott, Orla McMahon, Maebhe O Neill.

The club would also like to thank GAA in Scotland’s Ronan McCarthy and Niall Considine, all the parents — and organisations Clydebank Rugby Club, Clydebank Community Sports Hub, West Dunbartonshire Council, Our Holy Redeemer School. Whitecrook Primary, Linnvale Primary school, EMacBus and Celtic Foundation.
