How does this affect the game as a whole? In 2003 the Clubgolf programme was born from the Ryder Cup bid and aimed to introduce every child in Scotland to the game, for those who choose to take the game up to be welcomed into the sport which they can have lifelong enjoyment from, and for every child who makes the trip to the 1st tee to be encouraged to reach their potential.

In the last decade and the last few years in particular, the game is finally starting to move with the times and with young players like Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and local girl Kylie Walker flying high at the moment, the junior golfer of today doesn’t have to look too far to find an idol.

Still viewed as a costly, elitist sport, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The cost of annual junior membership in the local area is around £100, and in some cases far less.

That’s a whole year of golf for just a little more than the cost of a couple of games for a console, they get to interact with existing and new friends and engage with players of all ages in friendly competition throughout the year too. Children develop etiquette, manners, honesty and integrity while being out in the fresh air, exercising in a safe and fun environment. The game breeds determination, strength of character and perseverance- skills which transfer to and from other sports and life in general.

At World of Golf, we offer free group tuition for junior beginners and adults, we also offer individual 1-1 sessions and for more established golfers from age 11-16.

There is a junior squad programme, currently they are recruiting for the 3rd intake of this 2-year programme.

If you would like to know more, there’s a parents and player info night on Tuesday, November 25 from 8pm.
