Snooker star Stephen Maguire has his heart set on World Championship glory — but tonight (Wednesday) he is paying a visit to Clydebank’s Lucky Break snooker club.

The visit to the Dumbarton Road club has been arranged by Lucky Break owner John Rea, who also acts as Maguire’s manager, and he explained: “On Wednesday we will host the first Stephen Maguire roadshow, we’re looking forward to it and there should be a full house at the club.

“Stephen will play 10 players and then at the break Stephen will sign some autographs and an ex pro will come on and do some trick shots and impressions of professional players.” Rea, a former professional player himself, has had a close friendship with Maguire for a number of years, but this season he has taken on the role of the world number 13‘s manager — a role which will see him travel across the world with Maguire to each of snooker’s major tournaments.

And he explained he is aiming for the very top for Maguire, he said: “I have been friendly with Stephen for a while and I will be there at the major tournaments to take some of the pressure off him, to do some coaching with him and to help him on his way.

“He has started well — there has only been three small tournaments so far — he got to the quarter finals of the first one, was beaten by Judd Trump at the weekend but played very well so I am looking forward to the major tournaments coming up.

“I can see a wee sparkle in Stephen’s eye so I am looking forward to the season ahead.

“My aim is for Stephen to lift the World Championship or the UK Championship — the ability is there, it’s just a matter of getting Stephen’s head right.
