CLYDEBANK Rugby club welcomed a wealth of international talent to Whitecrook on Saturday as part of their 10s tournament and the RBS RugbyForce scheme.

Glasgow Warriors star Sean Maitland, a British and Irish Lion, was joined by Scotland’s record points scorer Chris Paterson to welcome sides hailing from Helensburgh, Loch Lomond and the Police force to name but a few.

The hosts were the big winners of the day wrapping up both the cup and plate tournaments as well as benefiting from a £250 grant from RBS and the helping hands of the rugby idols who boosted the cause by getting their hands dirty in the clubhouse and firing up the barbecue for the hungry spectators.

Maitland said: “It was an absolute pleasure to help out and see the fantastic work the club are doing to really involve the local community and make them feel part of what is obviously a great set-up.

“I know from my own experiences what a vital role clubs play in encouraging young talent and being a focal point for the community, and it’s fantastic to be able to give something back like this.”
