CLYDEBANK shot put hopeful Alison Rodger will kickstart her Commonwealth Games tonight (Wednesday).

Taking part in the shot put final at Hampden Park, the 29-year-old will be hoping to put recent injury battles to one side as she looks to bring home the gold.

Preparations for previous tournaments have been hampered by various injury battles which seen her ruled out of the London Olympics in 2012.

However, she will be bidding to return to the good form which has seen her been crowned seven time Scottish indoor champion and six time Scottish outdoor champion.

Currently ranked 159th in the world Alison will need to be at the top of her game if she is to be successful come Wednesday evening. But has admitted she is just happy to be at the Games in the first place.

She said: “My goal at the start of the season was to qualify for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and now I have made it into the Scotland line up I aim to perform to the best of my ability.” Rodger will return to action come August with the Scottish Championships in Kilmarnock in a bid to add to her title haul.

The women’s shot put final kicks off tonight (Wednesday) at 8.40pm.
