CLYDEBANK AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION Congratulations to Singer BC on winning the CDBA Top 5 competition. The final between Singer and Clydebank was played at Yarrow BC on Sunday, July 20.

The final score was 3-2 with Allan Milne, Bobby Totten and Ross Ward winning their singles matches for Singer and Grant Russell and Scott Paton recording wins for Clydebank.

The trophy was presented by CDBA president Frank Carrigan and secretary John Anderson. En route to the final Singer had beaten Scotstounhill and Radnor Park (in semi-final) whilst Clydebank had prevailed over Victoria Park and Albion (in semi-final).

The CDBA Top 10 quarter finals were played at neutral venues on Friday, July 18. The results were as follows: Radnor Park 6 Singer 2, Old Kilpatrick 5 Scotstounhill 3, Clydebank 6 Dalmuir 2 and Albion 6 Yoker 2. The semi-final line-up for Friday, July 25 (6.45pm start) is: Radnor Park v Old Kilpatrick at Yoker BC and Clydebank v Albion at Radnor Park BC.

The winners of these matches will contest the CDBA Top 10 final on Sunday July 27. The final will be held at Yarrow BC commencing at 2pm.

The preliminary round ties in the CDBA Seniors Top 10 competition were played on Monday, July 14. The scores were as follows: Scotstounhill 6 Yoker 2 and Dalmuir 6 Radnor Park 2. The quarter finals of the competition were due to be played on Monday, July 21.

The draw for the semi-finals to be played at neutral venues is as follows: Scotstounhill or Dalmuir v Clydebank or Yarrow at Old Kilpatrick BC and Old Kilpatrick or Albion v Singer or Victoria Park at Yoker BC.

The David Syme Senior League week 13 matches are scheduled for Monday, August 4.

League leaders Clydebank have a home match against Radnor Park whilst holders Dalmuir face a tough away game at Singer. Full details of the week 13 matches will be reported in next week’s column.

The CDBA Seniors take on their Dumbarton counterparts in the annual friendly on Thursday, July 24. The match will be held at Brock BC starting at 2pm.

DISTRICT CLUB NEWS Clydebank BC held their Mixed Pairs competition on Saturday, July 12. The competition winners were G. Bruce and T. Clark who defeated D. Clark and E. Campbell in the final. F. Kane/G. Kane and E. Schooling/M. Scott lost out at the semi-final stage. The Clydebank Ladies Open Fours were held the previous week, on Saturday, July 5.

The Clydebank ladies rink of A. Peake, M. McLarty, L. Smyth and J. Rioch had a great day getting through to the final only to lose out to a Cardross team. The losing semi-finalists were J. Kilpatrick, C. McBain, T. Pritchard and E. Mackie representing Albion and another rink from Cardross.

The Clydebank Feber Open Pairs was held a few weeks ago and the results are now available.

The competition was won by George Bruce and Jean Graham who beat D. Clark and M. Scott in a close final. The other section winners were A. Peake/Eric Peake and Carol Laird/Mick McDermott.

Albion Bowling Club hold their annual Open Fours on Saturday, July 26.

Clubs from within the District and beyond will congregate at the Halley Street green in time for a 9.30am start to proceedings.

Dalmuir BC are holding their annual Gala Day on Saturday, July 26 to which all visitors are welcome. The event is being held in conjunction with Bowls Scotland’s “Try Bowls” campaign to encourage non-bowlers to try out one of the Commonwealth Games’ sports. There will be a number of other activities and stalls for adults and kids alike and a BBQ and Tea Room will be available. The activities run from 12 noon to 6.00pm.

Clydebank are hosting their popular Bowls and Pakora game on Saturday and Old Kilpatrick are holding the Kelso Family Tournament on the same day.

Also on Saturday Radnor Park hand over the First Terrace green to their Ladies Section and Victoria Park are hosting the Rolls Royce day. Singer member Fred Reid will be sponsoring the “Five End Fred Pairs” at Singer BC on Saturday, July 26.

DUMBARTONSHIRE BOWLING ASSOCIATION The District Three final of the DBA Under-45’s Trophy was held on Wednesday, July 16. The match was won by Westerton who beat Singer at Claremont BC. The Inter District (3/4) finals will be held at Westermains BC on Wednesday, July 23 (tonight at 6.45pm).

The Under-45 final will be held at Campsie BC on Wednesday, July 30.

The West Area final of the DBA Top 10 was played last week and Rock BC prevailed over Helensburgh BC.

The DBA Top 10 Final between Westerton (East Area winners) and Rock will be held at Dumbarton BC on Sunday, August 3.

GLASGOW BOWLING ASSOCIATION Congratulations to Yarrow BC who won the Glasgow BA Centenary Cup at Cathcart BC on Sunday, July 13.

It was an extremely tight affair throughout the entire final but the Yarrow rink of D. Bingham, S. McKie, T. Cochrane and W. Drysdale managed to hold off their opponents Pollokshaws B.C. by a 16-15 scoreline.

BOWLS SCOTLAND COMPETITIONS The Scottish Cities and Counties Bowling Championship final was played at Carricknowe BC on Saturday, July 19.

After going in front early on, Lanarkshire South just managed to hold off a thrilling comeback from West Lothian.

The Andrew Hamilton Trophy was then presented to the 2014 winners. Carricknowe BC were thanked for hosting the event and their green and facilities received generous praise in the final speeches.
