Yoker bounce back
Yoker............................2
Benburb.......................1
YOKER got back to winning ways following two back-to-back defeats after a deserved 2-1 win over Benburb.
Yoker started brightly and took the lead after just five minutes when a corner was swung into the back post and was headed dangerously back across the area for Neil Schoneville to nod it into the back of the net.
The Whe-Ho were dominating the match and held most of the possession.
The Holm Park side should of doubled their advantage by 25 minutes when Jamie Carson passed up a glorious opportunity after he was one-on-one with the keeper but his lack of compsure let him down and he fired straight at the Bens keeper.
Benburb were riding their luck at times though the visitors nearly made Yoker pay for their missed chances when five minutes later they had their first meaningful attack of the game.
The ball fell to their striker inside the Whe-Ho box but the Yoker keeper closed down the angle and produced a terrific save with his feet to deny Benburb an equaliser. Yoker were on top though and were unlucky not to be two goals up by the break.
But they had a marvellous opportunity to double their advantage just two minutes after the interval when they were awarded a penalty after a corner was floated in and a player was clumsily bundled down.
But John Brogan's side failed to take that opportunity after a poor penalty by Bissland was saved by the Benburb keeper. Bens were improving as the second half wore on and this time they did make Yoker pay. In the 70th minute they found their equaliser when the ball was played to Steven Waddell just a few yards out from goal and he was left with an easy finish and there was no chance for the Yoker keeper.
However, Yoker showed plenty of character after that blow when Bissland made amends for his penalty miss earlier in the game.
They hit back with and instant response after a ball was whipped into the box and after some poor marking from Benburb it found Bissland and he just poked the ball past the floundering Benburb keeper.
Yoker had finally found the killer second goal and they held on to earn a 2-1 win over Benburb.
