THIS week's golf for the gents section at Clydebank and District was the American Express trophy which was played on Saturday.

A total of 159 players took part despite the poor weather.

And the scoring during the competition was still good throughout the three classes.

Kris McClure's good run of form continued when once again he had the lowest gross of the day with his 69.

In first class Brian Smith scored a net 67 to win from Hugh Gravil who scored a 68.

In second class two players, Billy McKirdy and Stuart Greaves, both scored 65, however, Stuart had the better inward half and picked up not only the second class sweep but also the American Express trophy.

In third class Steve Welsh scored a 68, however, he was beaten into second place by Terry Lappin's score of 67.

The ladies section played on Sunday in the Chris Boyd trophy with 11 players taking part.

The conditions on Sunday were very blustery and difficult for the ladies.

The winner was Gael Davidson who scored a 76 with Cathie Skinner finishing in second place with a score of 79.

The lowest gross score of the day was Anne Wilson who scored 92.

The Hardgate Open will be played on July 24.

The club still has some spaces and if anyone would like to play they should email the club at matchsecretary@clydebankanddistrictgolfclub.co.uk.
