The young Bankies were lethal in front of goal with man of the match Kevin McNaught scoring a hat-trick.

Stenhousemuir had defeated last season’s Scottish cup finalists Tynecastle and Colony Park in recent weeks.

Calum Davidson had the first chance from a Kevin McNaught cross. An enforced tactical change for the young Bankies paid off as lone striker Kevin McNaught raced clear and calmly lobbed the keeper to give Clydebank a 1- 0 lead.

Jamie Grimes combined with McNaught only some last ditch defending from Stenny kept them out and the deficit at one..

Cammie Morgan headed over before a good break saw Bankies almost add a second as Darren McKinley, Davidson, McNaught and the returning Jordan Campbell combined brilliantly.

As Stenny tried to push for an equaliser before half-time Davidson again broke from the back and switched to McNaught on the right who cut inside before placing a shot in the bottom corner. In form Paul McKenna produced a save as the young Bankies took a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Bankies then got the perfect start in the second half when another quick counter McNaught switch play sending the hardworking McKinley clear who showed superb composure rounding the keeper to finish.

With a 3-0 lead Bankies had to sit in and defend for large parts of the half while countering the strong Stenny side but the team defended brilliantly, soaking up everything the visitors were throwing at them.

McNaught was more than a handful for the visitors linking again with McKinley and then heading over. McKenna made a superb save next denying Stenny in a one on one with the away striker.

Fraser Reid curled in a corner that was headed in by McNaught to earn his hat-trick. Stenny eventually pulled back a goal.

The young Bankies should have made it five when Sean Stewart raced clear of the Stenny defence only to be chopped down by the visiting keeper on the edge of the box which saw the keeper red carded late in the game. Morgan sent the free-kick just over and McKinley and McNaught had further chances as the match came to a close.

This was an outstanding performance from the young Bankies against a top quality second year 19s side and they now look forward to the last 16 draw which is being made next week.
