Ten-man Arthurlie looked to have taken all three points despite having Alan Muir sent off in the first half for two bookable offences.

However Gold’s fine near-post header from a Graeme Ramage corner secured a point at the death.

Bankies started poorly and looked like a team low on confidence.

Robert Hamilton kept out Paul Stewart’s net-bound header from an early corner in their first attempt on goal.

Andy Paterson could have given the home side the lead but he blasted over after Stevie Gardiner flicked on a Ramage corner.

Hamilton then blocked a fierce Chris Dallas drive after a long pass from ex-Bankie Gavin Rushford split the Clydebank defence.

Arthurlie were reduced to 10 men six minutes before the break when Alan Muir received a second booking for a challenge on Jordan Shelvey.

Bankies were the better team by then and hopes were high going into the break that they could make the extra man count.

The visitors’ main threat came from set-pieces and on the hour Clydebank conceded a needless corner which led to the opening goal.

Ryan McGregor lashed home the rebound after he headed a Ryan McArdle corner into a ruck of players.

Some Clydebank players were clearly deflated and for the moments after the goal were at their most vulnerable.

Stewart and McGregor had chances to increase the lead as the home side hung on by a thread.

Bankies boss McGhie introduced Gold and Ross Harvie and switched to a 3-4-3 formation to try and turn the match around.

Paterson fired high and wide when a ball broke to him on the edge of the six-yard box and Tommy Martin curled a shot from distance that also flew past.

Arthurlie keeper Michael White was booked for time-wasting as the visitors tried to run down the clock.

In stoppage time Paterson forced a corner which Ramage whipped in for Gold to head home, but even then Bankies could still have lost the match.

Almost straight from the restart, Gary Smith broke and fired in a shot which Hamilton fumbled into the path of McGregor.

It looked like a simple tap in for the ‘Lie danger man but somehow Hamilton stuck out a leg to block what looked a certain goal.

Seconds later the final whistle sounded to end a tense affair that felt like a defeat for both sides.

Bankies are on West of Scotland Cup duty on Saturday when they face the trip to Dalmellington in Ayrshire to face Craigmark Burntonians.
