JUBILATION: The Bankie players celebrate the final whistle against Auchinleck Talbot
BANKIES boss Budgie McGhie insisted his side shouldn't fear anyone in the Emirates Junior Cup quarter-final - but was adamant they will not suffer from complacency.
McGhie was ecstatic with his players' heroic performance against Auchinleck Talbot in the fifth round and claimed Clydebank were a match for any side in the competition.
But, despite getting revenge on last season's cup winners at Beechwood on February 13, the Holm Park manager insisted his players will keep their feet on the ground and respect their opponents in the next round.
McGhie said: "Even before the Auchinleck game, we knew the club were at the stage where we didn't need to fear anyone.
"But we are always going to respect whoever we play.
"It was a tremendous win but we are not going to get over confident.
"We have produced a shock result against Auchinleck but that doesn't mean we are going to cruise past our opponents in the quarter-finals and get to the final.
"Sometimes it is easier to lift your game against the bigger teams than when you are playing smaller sides.
"Whatever team we are drawn against in the quarter-finals, we will prepare for the game just as we did for the match at Beechwood."
Just a week earlier Clydebank had suffered a shock draw against Girvan at Holm Park after letting a three-goal lead slip.
McGhie saw a transformed team when they defeated Talbot in Ayrshire seven days later and he was delighted with their reaction to the 3-3 draw.
He added: "It was a great day for the players and the supporters and I was really pleased with the performance of the whole team including the substitutes.
"To be honest I thought it was a big ask for the players because we were down to the bare bones.
"The players were disappointed after losing three goals in the Girvan game.
"They reacted well and wanted to make amends for it.
"It obviously means a lot to players and they were determined to win.
"Considering everything we had to put up with, it was a tremendous victory."
The Bankies now face another tricky test in the league this Saturday when they travel to Kilsyth Rangers in a re-arranged match on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).
The Bankies haven't won at Duncansfield Park as a Junior club in three attempts and with the Lanarkshire outfit just two points behind Clydebank McGhie knows it will be a difficult match.
He said: "It's a tough one for us as they are sitting just below us in the league.
"We went to Kilsyth twice last year and we didn't win on either occasion.
"Kilsyth will also have an extra incentive to get a win against us after our result against Auchinleck."
The Clydebank Supporters Club bus to Kilsyth leaves Holm Park at 12.30pm, calling at the Atlantis at 12.40pm and Hardgate Cross at 12.50pm.
It is £5 (£3 concession) for members and £7 for non-members (no concession for non-members.
