YOKER ATHLETIC were the free team in the league at the weekend but in the end only one match went ahead, with fellow promotion chasers Benburb dropping two points away from home at Wishaw.

Whe-Ho boss John Brogan put his side through a friendly last week against Clydebank which ended in a 3-3 draw.

Yoker's goalscorers were David McReadie and Neil Schoneville, who netted a double, while John Jack, Mark Hailstones and Martin McInnes got on the scoresheet for The Bankies.

The most important fact of the match for Brogan was the return of Gary Bissland after a lengthy lay-off with a calf problem, the midfielder played the first 45 minutes and came through unscathed.

Brogan's side played Super Premier League side Kilbirnie Ladeside on Tuesday in another friendly which was a good test for them as the Blasties boast former Whe-Ho players Ryan Frew and Mark Collins in their ranks.

Bissland and goalkeeper Steven Soave may return from injury to competitive action at the weekend.

Both players would be welcome additions to the manager's squad for Saturday's league match against St Roch's.

James Strain and Gary McReadie are both still missing through injury.

Yoker Athletic's match with St Roch's is Saturday February 20 (kick-off 1.45pm).
