BUDGIE McGhie admitted Saturday's call-off against Rutherglen Glencairn was a blessing in disguise because of their mounting injury list.

The Bankies were set to play the league leaders away on Saturday December 18, however, the match was called off due to the New Southcroft Park being frozen.

But Budgie wasn't complaining the Glens' match was scrapped because of the team carrying a huge injury list, as well as a few of his squad suffering with the dreaded flu bug.

He said: "I have to say I wasn't too disappointed the game was cancelled.

"We had a lot of players off injured and some players had come down with the flu.

"You don't want to see any game being called off, but we didn't have our strongest team.

"You have to look at the positives and say we will have a stronger squad available for the rearranged match.

"Stevie Dallas, Stevie Dymock and Robert Tiropoulos certainly would not have played.

"Mark Hailstones and Paul Allum were also injured.

"Gary Lynn had a chest infection and another player came down with the flu.

"There were a couple of players carrying knocks.

"They would have played but they were no where near 100-per-cent fit.

"If the game had gone ahead we would have definitely played it, but we would have had to bring in two or three trialists.

"However, there was a severe frost so the game would have never gone ahead on a grass pitch."

McGhie revealed their training preparations over the Christmas period will be hampered because of the injuries.

He added: "We will be holding training sessions over the Christmas period, but we will be missing a few players for them.

"However, our next game is not until January 9."

Clydebank's next opponents on January 9 have yet to be announced by the SJFA.
