Boss Mcghie wants to banish last season's away-day blues

CLYDEBANK notched up a deserved win in their first away league clash of the season against Neilston at a blustery Brig o' Lea.

Budgie McGhie was able to name an unchanged side from the starting 11 that swept aside Whitletts Victoria a week

earlier.

But as delighted as the Bankies boss was after this result and his players' 100-per-cent start to the campaign, he will be sure not to get carried away.

He said: "Our away form definitely cost us last season so it is pleasing to pick up the points - but it is just a good start and

nothing more.

"We won our first away fixture at

Girvan last year so we won't read to much into it.

"That said, it was a difficult fixture and we deserved to win over the 90 minutes.

"There were a couple of periods when they caused us difficulties, but overall we were worth it."

Neilston had the game's first clear chance

but Willie Stuart fired wide with only Stefan Gonet to beat, an early warning that was heeded by the visitors.

They were better than their hosts all over the park and should have had more to show for their dominance at the break.

Martin McInnes, Steven Dymock and Stevie Dallas all had decent headed opportunities to open the

scoring, before Gary Lynn finally breached Mark Quinn's goal.

On 35 minutes the Clydebank skipper fired home a left-foot free-kick that took a

deflection before it ended up in the back of the net.

McGhie's men were rueing the missed chances when Stuart levelled the match just after the break.

The hardworking Dymock was replaced by Charlie Hobbs, who made an early impact by restoring his side's lead when he headed home after Quinn had blocked his initial effort.

The pacy striker gave everyone a laugh

when he fresh-aired an attempt to shoot moments before his goal, but his next

intervention darkened the mood in the home camp.

Nicky Cairney popped up 15 minutes

from time to make it three after great work by Paul Allum.

The young midfielder has had an excellent start to his Clydebank career and his neat finish capped another fine performance.

Clydebank can now look forward to a

trip to play Annbank and the chance to take their first

points at New Pebble Park at the third attempt on Saturday September 5.

McGhie said: "Annbank have already beaten Ashfield and Glenafton so that's an indication that it won't be easy.

"But the fact that we haven't done well down there on our two previous visits gives us an added incentive."
