Clydebank 1 Yoker 1

CLYDEBANK boss Budgie McGhie couldn't hide his disappointment after his side's poor performance against derby rivals Yoker - but insists he's still upbeat going into Saturday's opening league match.

The battle of Holm Park ended all square as Clydebank recovered late on for a share of the spoils with rivals Yoker on Saturday.

Charlie Hobbs struck late on to cancel out Gary Dempsey's opener to keep Bankies' hopes alive for progression into the next round.

Despite Clydebank's impressive displays in the League Cup, McGhie said his men have to improve their performances before taking on Dalry Thistle to kick off their league campaign.

He said: "It was slightly disappointing from our point of view.

"I felt four or five of the boys were off form for some reason.

"As it was a local derby we would have expected our players to be up for it but we weren't.

"I'm still confident, however, going into the league campaign this Saturday.

"It will be a difficult match as Dalry were promoted last season and they will have a big support behind them.

"But we're optimistic because we have more options than last year."

The game itself was a very competitive affair and Yoker could have been one up before the interval had it not been for the linesman's flag.

Midfielder Jamie Carson blasted the ball into the net after Gonet dropped the ball under pressure, but the referee's assistant flagged for what appeared to be an elbow against Gonet.

Clydebank then came close when Brain Smith was clear through on goal but his

effort was saved by the impressive Steven Soave.

Bankies began to look more dangerous as captain Gary Lynn crashed a free-kick off the crossbar before Steven Dymock's goal was disallowed for offside.

Yoker took the lead soon after when Dempsey jumped unopposed in the box to fire his header low into the net past Stefan Gonet.

But Clydebank grabbed the all-important equaliser seven minutes from time when substitute Hobbs volleyed home from a Paul Allum cross to salvage a point for the Bankies.

Clydebank had been on form recently as they cruised to a comfortable victory against Glasgow Perthshire after a 4-0 rout at Keppoch Park last Wednesday.

Skipper Gary Lynn gave the visitors an early lead from the spot after a foul on Stevie Dallas.

The impressive Dallas doubled the advantage after the break with a header from a Mark Hailstones free-kick.

Steven Dymock came off the bench to make it three during a period of sustained pressure for McGhie's men.

The scoring was completed by trialist Johnny Harvey, who drilled home a low shot after robbing a defender on the edge of the box.

After last night's League Cup match with Ashfield (Tuesday), Bankies now turn their attention to their league campaign which kicks off at 2pm against Dalry Thistle on Saturday at Merkswerth Park.
