HEADS UP: The Bankies battling hard before gaining the upper hand with two well-taken goals against local rivals Vale of Leven on Saturday
DEADLY duo Stevie Dymock and Stevie Dallas gave Clydebank fans a glimpse of the talent that could fire the Bankies to promotion this season with two excellent strikes last Saturday.
The summer captures lit up an otherwise uninspiring affair against county rivals Vale of Leven in a friendly match at Millburn Park.
Dymock kept up his fine goal-scoring form with a low strike to open the scoring inside the last ten minutes and in the closing stages Dallas outjumped the Vale defence to head home at the back post.
Team boss Budgie McGhie was delighted with two 'superb' goals but unimpressed with his team in general.
He said: "It was another good workout but the performance was a bit disappointing,
"We can still take positives out of it but I expect more from my players."
A spirited Vale side had the better of the early chances and were unlucky not to take the lead midway through the first half when they had the ball in the net.
The referee ruled that a home forward had strayed offside but video footage, when examined later, clearly showed the goal should have stood.
Bankies struggled to get going and McGhie made no fewer than four changes on the hour. The introduction of Dymock and young Nicky Cairney in particular gave the visitors a spark they had previously lacked.
Dallas should have opened the scoring but failed to capitalise with the goal at his mercy when the scoresheet was blank.
Millburn Park has been a good venue for the Bankies over they years and as the match drew to a close, it looked like they would edge it.
Ex-Rob Roy man Dymock found space at the back post and drilled the ball across the keeper into the far corner with nine minutes left.
It was an excellent strike, the sort of shot it is easy to pull wide or fire too close to the keeper.
With fans heading for the exits, the lead was doubled when Dallas got in front of his marker to head home a volleyed cross from Brian Smith.
The striker got his timing just right and showed why he is one of the most feared forwards in the Junior ranks.
Clydebank now return their focus to their Sectional League Cup, with a trip to Keppoch Park to face Glasgow Perthshire tonight (Wednesday).
On Saturday McGhie's men have a derby clash against Yoker Athletic at Holm Park to look forward to.
The Bankies boss said: "I am sure these will be tough games as Perthshire are undefeated in the group and by all account Yoker were unlucky against Ashfield last Saturday.
"The derby is always a tough one and we have the incentive of trying to get our first win against Yoker at Holm Park.
"So if we want to win the group we will have to raise our performance level a notch or two in these matches."
Clydebank versus Yoker Athletic kicks off at 2pm while tonight's match with Perthshire starts at 7pm.
Meanwhile, the Bankies have signed former Partick Thistle defender Alan Vezza, 19.
