AFTER a quiet summer Clydebank Rugby Club is back training and the players are looking forward to the new season where they kick off against local rivals Loch Lomond in the league at the end of August.

Before the first league match Clydebank will have trial matches against Allan Glens and Hamilton second XV in order to get ready for what will be a very difficult and competitive league this year.

The summer has seen the club celebrate its 40th birthday, tour to Gloucester and compete in the annual Golf competition and club members past and present gathered at the Beardmore Hotel to celebrate.

Members travelled from all over the world to be at the event and meet old friends and remember past successes and dream of more in the coming years.

The present members travelled to Gloucester on tour where they celebrated the relative success of last season which saw the club finish third after promotion the previous year.

The members competed in the club's annual Golf Tournament at Dalmuir Golf Club last weekend. David Bell won the event with a nett score of 74 although a number of players were close on his heals at the end of the day.

The summer has also seen the youth rugby section continue to provide training sessions for the players in an attempt to keep them busy over the long summer months.

With a full fixture list next year the club are keen to increase the number of youth players.

Anyone at Primary or Secondary school who would like to take up rugby should contact Gordon McCombe (07812 582775) or Michael Starkey (07792 154625) for details.

The weeks leading up to the start of the season will be busy for the club with a number of events planned.

On Saturday the club will host their annual Tens Tournament, which this year has been sponsored by BAA Glasgow Airport who have been active in supporting local community groups and clubs within the Clydebank and Whitecrook area.

Clydebank Rugby Club is looking forward to working with BAA Glasgow Airport and hope that the event will be a great success.

The event will include 12 local rugby clubs competing for three trophies.

The matches start at 1pm on the Saturday afternoon.
