Allison: 'Our striking strength in depth is key to season'
CLYDEBANK assistant Stuart Allison has praised the quality and depth of his side as the Bankies head into the Sectional League Cup tonight (Wednesday July 29).
Allison also feels his side is stronger than last year and will be able to rely on their in-form strike force to do the damage.
Stevie Dallas officially signed on for his local side last week and joins fellow strikers Charlie Hobbs, Andy Selkirk and Steven Dymock in competing for his place in the Bankies' attack.
Allison is pleased with the level of competition his side has all over the park and admits there will be a selection headache when it comes to picking the front two.
He said: "Competition is a good thing to have because it keeps all the guys on their toes, knowing there is someone breathing down their neck.
"No disrespect to the side here last year but we have quality in depth this season, covering all positions. Even in goal, big Stefan knows he has to be on his toes with Robert Tripolouos in the squad.
"We have four quality strikers in this year and they're all scoring which is the most important thing. Even Charlie Hobbs who is just back from injury came in and scored straight away against St Anthony's.
"It will be a headache trying to decide who will start because at the moment, whoever plays seems to be working. But Billy will decide who will start against Maryhill."
Clydebank head into tonight's League Cup game on the back of a 4-1 win at Johnstone Burgh last Wednesday, followed by a 2-1 victory over St Anthony's at the weekend.
Stevie Dallas scored his first goal for his new club at Keanie Park in midweek and Charlie Hobbs returned from injury to net against the Ants to delight Allison with their goal scoring threat.
Now the former Arthurlie defender will be hoping to maintain their promise through the League Cup and onto the League campaign on August 15.
He added: "The game on Saturday was a pretty poor first-half performance and we were better in the second half.
"But we played some good stuff against the Burgh.
"It can be hard to get strong performances from the side because we're changing the squad around and giving everybody some game time.
"We've got a big squad so we haven't really decided what our first eleven will be.
"You hope you do well in the Sectional League Cup but we'll still be using the time to try and find out our starting eleven. It's not the be all and end all but we are looking forward to it, especially with the derby game it gives it that wee bit extra."
The Bankies faithful will also be delighted with the capture of Shaun Molloy from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in a deal that includes forward Chris Mackie moving in the other direction. Left-back Molloy spent four years with Queen's Park before his move to Adamslie in January and will join up with his former Rabs team-mate Steven Dymock.
