Clydebank 67 Uddingston 0

THE penultimate league match of the season against bottom placed Uddingston turned into the Graeme Kyle rugby show.

He crossed the line five times in an 11-try romp despite the match lasting just 67 minutes.

Uddingston turned up at Whitecrook four players short at kick off, but still keen to play so several home players stood in to ensure the match was played.

Unfortunately for Uddingston, the Clydebank 1st XV were champing at the bit to play and set about their task with a vengence.

Within six minutes, Kyle opened the scoring after a line out win deep in the Uddingston half allowed the forwards to rumble towards the line. The conversion was missed - but the flood gates had opened.

However, it did take a while for the points to roll as it was not until the 15th minute before Craig Shearer received a final pass from Ronnie McKee and touched down in the corner. The more difficult conversion was a success for Ross Moffatt.

David Miller was next up when he finished off a charge down the middle by the forwards, with Moffatt successful once more. Kyle added his second try on 25 minutes when he stretched for the corner flag after a move initiated from another lineout win close to the try line.

Clydebank were dominating all aspects of the game and the final score of the half came from the indomitable David Bell who held off the Uddingston full back as he crossed the line for his first try of the match.

Moffatt missed the last two conversions and the first half ended with Clydebank 29-0 ahead. Within two minutes of the kick-off, Bell restarted the scoring with his second try when he slid through the Uddingston midfield to touch down under the posts.

The second half lasted just 16 more minutes during which time Clydebank scored every three minutes. Ross McCombe and Ronnie McKee managed one apiece, but it was Kyle who lit up the half with a further three tries to add to his first half brace.

He dominated the running game with strong breaks up the middle of the park without any real resistance shown from the Uddingston defence.

Michael Starkey took over the kicking duties for the second half and converted four of the six second half tries to complete the scoring for the day. The second half was certainly one way traffic and was cut short at the agreement of both captains.

Next week, Clydebank welcome Strathclyde Police in the final match of the league hoping to avenge the recent away loss.

Clydebank operate youth teams from P1 to U16 and are always looking for new players. For further information, call Gordon McCombe on 07812582775 or go to the club web site at www.clydebankrfc.com.
