The forward plied his trade in the Ayrshire District League for Dalry Thistle last year — this season has provided a stiffer test for the 20-year-old.

Cumming only officially signed for Clydebank last month — but he was training with the club when injury delayed his involvement in the team. He has started games against Lossiemouth and Troon but has been a substitute on Bankies last two outings but he told SportScene he is ready to help the side turn their season around.

He said: “It’s definitely been a step up, I’ve noticed that in the games I’ve played. The games are a lot quicker than I’ve been used to.

However it’s nothing I don’t think I can handle.

“The important thing is we get out of this run we’ve been on, obviously I would like more opportunities in the team but the team comes first.” Cumming’s delight with getting an opportunity at Clydebank is obvious, perhaps increased due to the surprising nature of his switch to the club.

He said: “There were a lot of lower league teams in for me. I heard of Clydebank’s interest through my old manager, who knows Budgie and I think Budgie had asked about me a couple of times.

“Budgie asked me to come down to train, but to be honest I didn’t really think anything would come of it. Then after a couple of weeks training I went over on my ankle and was out for about six weeks which was disappointing. But while I was injured Budgie told me he wanted to sign me once I was fit so I was delighted.

“The club is brilliant. I didn’t really know what to expect if I’m honest but the setup is great, from the management right throughout the club it’s so professional.”
