YOKER ATHLETIC came out on top in a thrilling eight-goal game at home to Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday.

Ryan Hynes gave the hosts the lead, before being pegged back.

Yoker restored their advantage after the break via David Crerand, but moments later Shotts went in front through Mark Duffy and Danny Burns.

And in the last 10 minutes Yoker scored three goals in eight minutes via Ross Cameron, Reece McGillion and Grieg Maitland to seal the win.

Whe-Ho gaffer Steven Reilly made four changes to side which lost at Irvine Victoria the week before.

In came Gareth Watson, John Harvey, Mark McManus and Shaun Kelly.

Yoker started the brighter team, with Maitland in sparkling form.

The winger’s first strike hit the post and then he was denied by an outstanding Johnny Murdoch save.

At the other Stephen McGuire skipped past Michael Bailey all too easily before he was denied by a fine Watson stop.

The Whe-Ho took the lead just after the half-hour mark, when Hynes latched on to Andy Rankin’s headed flick to smash high past Murdoch to open scoring.

Yoker’s defensive frailties were exposed moments later though when Shotts took a short corner and when the ball arrived in the box Andy Scott squeezed it home at the near post to level matters.

The second half began with Yoker on the front foot and Bailey’s superb cross picked out Crerand, who stretched to volley home and restore the Whe-Ho’s lead five minutes after the restart.

Shotts were level again though just a few moments later when Richard Henry failed to clear his lines and Mark Duffy fired past Watson.

The visitors then got in front when Burns punished Bailey’s sloppy clearance to score after 65 minutes.

Reilly then rang the changes with McGillion, Cameron and Arbuckle replacing Mark McManus, Rankin and Crerand at varying points. And it was substitute Cameron who levelled when he attacked Maitland’s corner to bullet home a header to make it 3-3 with 10 minutes remaining.

Maitland’s volley struck the bar before Hynes shot straight at Murdoch as the hosts searched for a winner.

Another Maitland corner was met by McGillion who crashed a header in off the underside of the bar to put Yoker in front.

With seconds remaining Maitland was rewarded with the goal his performance deserved when skipped past two defenders before unleashing a 25 yard thunderbolt to seal the points.

On Saturday Yoker travel to play Maryhill. Kick off at Lochburn Park is 1.45pm.
