CLYDEBANK and Yoker shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw in the first Holm Park derby of the season on Saturday.

Andy Paterson’s first-minute free kick put Clydebank in front before Greg Maitland’s spot kick and Ryan Hynes’ strike saw the Whe Ho take the lead. New signing Peter McGill then secured a point with his second in goal in as many games.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie named the same side that beat Dumbarton 2-0 on Tuesday, meaning competitive debuts for summer signings Jamie Darroch, Peter McGill and Alan Frizzell. It was a perfect start for Bankies, who opened the scoring after less than two minutes. Nicky Little was bundled to the ground 25 yards from goal. Andy Paterson sent his left-footed free kick around the wall – and Yoker goalkeeper Liam Campbell was only able to help the ball into the net.

From the restart, Yoker began to take control of possession, with Greg Maitland stamping his authority on the game. Feeding the ball to Hynes, the former Queens Park striker forced Bankies stopper Josh Lumsden into action for the first time, getting down well to tip a driven shot round the post.

Midway through the first half, Yoker were awarded a penalty when Greg Maitland’s corner flicked off the hand of Bankies defender Jamie Darroch. Referee Craig King pointed immediately to the spot, with Maitland squeezing the ball past Lumsden to level.

After the restart, Darroch had the chance to open his Bankies account. But his header from McGill’s corner went narrowly wide of Campbell’s left-hand post.

Soon after, Clydebank should have gone ahead. Robbie Halliday’s teasing free kick zipped across the face of goal but neither Darroch nor Joel Kasubandi could direct the ball goalwards.

Five minutes later, Yoker went ahead. Maitland once again caused problems down the left and his cross found its way to Hynes, who was given too much space and time, and stabbed the ball past Lumsden.

Midway through the second half, Bankies levelled with a sweeping counter-attack.

Picking the ball up on the halfway line, Mark Burbidge drove at the Yoker midfield, laying it off to last season’s top-scorer Nicky Little.

Little fed Frizzell out on the left and his cross into the box was perfect for debutant McGill to sweep the ball past former Bankies goalkeeper Liam Campbell.

Bankies continued to attack, with Jordan Shelvey and Stevie Young coming off the bench as the “home” side went in search of a late winner. They nearly found it when Shelvey knocked the ball down to Little, but his first-time effort was gathered well by Campbell in the Yoker goal.

Next up for Bankies is the visit of Glasgow Perthshire to Holm Park on Wednesday evening, while Yoker play away to Ashfield on Saturday.
