Whe Ho were 2-1 up at half-time with goals from Darren Jones and Steven Reilly. Maybole then levelled the tie before Gary Arbuckle and a second Jones strike gave McAulay’s side a 4-2 lead.

Jones was then sent off and Maybole mounted a comeback and eventually equalised in stoppage time.

With Maybole sitting in third place in the league McAulay was not too downbeat with the 4-4 scoreline.

He said: “We are a bit disappointed but having Darren sent off never helped.

“If you would’ve offered us a draw before the game we would’ve taken it because of where they are in the league.

“After the way we performed maybe a draw was a bit harsh on us. If it wasn’t for their goalkeeper pulling off four or five saves in the first half hour, we would’ve had the game dead and buried.

“It was probably fair enough that Darren got sent off but there was a lot that went on before that which, with Darren being young, he’s maybe reacted to it.

“To be fair to him he was probably our best player yesterday, scoring a couple of goals but he’ll learn from it in the future.” McAulay gave former Clydebank midfielder Reece Pearson a spot on the bench for Saturday’s tie after he signed with the Holm Park side until the end of the season.

The Yoker boss is happy to get Pearson on board having initially approached the player when he left Clydebank last year. Pearson chose to go to Irvine Meadow at that point but became available again.

He said: “He’s signed up until the end of the season. He’s young, he’s full of energy and pace. He gives us a bit of cover, he can play midfield or attack so he gives us a couple of options.

“We spoke to him when he left Clydebank, he wanted to have a go with Irvine Meadow but it never worked out.”
