The young Bankies failed to settle into their normal passing game and were punished within 10 minutes when Gleniffer striker Ross McDougall pounced on a loose ball and tucked his shot under Bankies goalkeeper Paul McKenna to open the scoring.

With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Clydebank found their way back into the match. Ryan McAllen’s free kick from the half way line deceived everyone and cannoned off the crossbar, but ever alert striker Sean Stewart was on hand to net the rebound.

Just before the half-time whistle, Bankies had a glorious chance to take the lead. Jamie Grimes’ towering header was destined for the back of the net when Sean Stewart tried to get the last touch, sending the ball just wide of the post.

Eight minutes into the second half Gleniffer took the lead. Connor Higgins looked to be a few yards offside, but the referee waved play on and Higgins drove at McKenna before lifting the ball over him to give the Paisley side the lead.

Higgins doubled his tally shortly after, finishing well from a tight angle after another close offside call.

Midway through the first half, Clydebank pulled a goal back in spectacular style. Ryan McAllen picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and took a touch before unleashing a fantastic drive that flew past Thistle goalkeeper Ciaran McKean.

McAllen headed a corner over the crossbar before receiving his second yellow card of the game in the dying minutes.

Darren McKinley had the last chance of the match, an indirect free kick given inside the box after the goalkeeper failed to release the ball, but his thunderous effort was blocked to confirm the Scottish Cup semi finalists’ first defeat of the season.
